Volume and Surface Area word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this volume and surface area puzzle set for my 5th graders during our measurement unit. The kids could find area of a flat shape but had no idea how to measure the space inside a 3D box or the total area of its outside. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like volume, surface area, cube, rectangular prism, length, width, height, cubic units, square units, multiply, add, faces, edges, formula, and capacity. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the volume and surface area terms finally click.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether volume is measured in square or cubic units. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple box drawings with labeled dimensions but nothing too busy.

Works for 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers find the volume of a box that is 3 by 2 by 4 on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
