Playing the Game After the front slide the game begins. First rounds are easier with less pictures. Later rounds are harder with up to 9 pictures at the end. Teams will take it in turns to answer. Gameplay Taking round 1 as an example. Three pictures are shown. After 10-15 seconds they will disappear. Students are to try and follow at least one of these pictures. Click the go button to begin. The three pictures will mix between themselves and end in a different position. Team A goes first. Anybody in the team can answer. Say the number and then the word. Click on the card to see if the answer is correct - 1 point per correct answer. After Team A have answered. Offer the chance for Team B and subsequently C, D etc in order. to answer. Attempt to get all of the cards answered before moving on. Click on the arrow to continue to round 2 . If you ever need to replay a round, you can press the refresh button on the left side. As the game goes on, you may want to change the rules by allocating 2 words for each team to follow with bonus points if they can answer any other words. Wouldn't you love to get your students excited about reading? Through this engaging and interactive Powerpoint presentation, your class can easily learn and practice CVC words with the short a sound. This fun activity can help teach them multiple reading skills like blending, letter sounds, and matching the sounds we read to the picture we see- and with its colorful visuals and simple instructions, you can't go wrong! This phonemic awareness activity includes 25 pages with 12 phonemic awareness activities on each page. I use these lists (one page per week, all year) as an all-class activity. Each page explicitly tells you, the teacher, what to say to the class, and what you should hear back from the whole class at the same time, if they are responding correctly. Practice skills included are: initial, medial, and final sounds, blending, and segmenting. If someone makes a mistake you can easily hear it and go over/explain the item to the class. I like to say my part, then snap two times for students to have think time. Then I place my hand palm up, as if to say GO AHEAD, in order to keep them in unison in their responses. Here is an example of one page- 1. First sound: I say- say, sit, sun They say- /s/ 2. First sound segmentation: I say- seed They say first sound, then the rest: /s/+eed 3. Final sound- I say- mat, bit, late They say: /t/ 4. Final sound segmentation: I say- pat They say the word, with last sound separate: /pa/+/t/ 5. Segmenting 3 sounds: I say- pig They say /p/ /i/ /g/ 6. Blending initial clusters: I say- /s/ top They say: stop 7. Segmenting 4 sounds. I say- flick They say: /f/ /l/ /i/ /k/ 8. Playing the Game The question slide will begin with a clue and the amount of points available for guessing the correct word with this clue alone. Students can write/say their answers. Clicking the curved arrow on the right will make the next clue appear. This will have a lower points value but gives another clue for students to guess the word on. Again, press the curved arrow for the final clue. This is pretty much a a give away ie. you put this on your head, so students win at least five points on each round. Press the arrow for the answer. A pic will also appear but immediately become semi-transparent so you can still see the clues underneath if you wish to go through them. Press the square in the bottom right corner to go to the next page. Will be harder for early learners due to the amount of reading so you may have to read it out and help with some meanings. The Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity is a simple activity for those just starting to learn the initial/beginning sounds. This game provides 2 activities in one, either an activity for one player, or a game for two or three players. For use: In the classroom - centres, paired activities, intervention etc.. At home - by parents + home-educators Aim of the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity : ·That the child will be able to match the correct letter to the correct picture by initial (or beginning) sound ·That children will hear the initial (or beginning) sound of a word ·That children will know the sound that each letter /a/ to /z/ stands for To prepare the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity : Print the pages you require (colour or black and white). Cut along the lines to separate the letters from the pictures. To play the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity Play as an activity for one player: Scatter the cards face up on the left and the letters cards, face up on the right-hand side of the player. The player should select a picture card, say the word and listen for the initial sound. The player should then find the matching letter that stands for that sound. Completed pairs are placed in front of the player. For two or three players: Scatter the pictures and letters as before, but face down. Players take turns to select a picture, say the initial sound and then attempt to find the matching letter that stands for that sound. Wrong attempts should be returned to the pools of cards.
