Anxiety can be difficult for children to manage and express. This “Anxiety Bingo” game provides a unique outlet for kids to identify calming strategies that work for them when feelings of worry start to swell. With simple yet versatile bingo boards, it allows children to actively try different relaxation techniques to ease anxiety. The bingo boards have a standard 3x3 layout with 9 different soothing strategies listed, like taking deep breaths, getting a drink of water, hugging a stuffed animal, positive self talk, or writing down your feelings. Children can use the given calming strategies or they can make their own custom bingo board and write down things that help them feel better. Once the child tries a technique, they mark it off on their bingo board. The goal is to get 3 strategies in a row - just like regular bingo! This incentivizes them to keep practicing helpful skills. Having multiple boards on hand allows for replayability as well. Not only does this activity foster relaxation in the moment of anxiety, but over time it builds children's understanding of different ways to self-soothe. Here is a simple game to help children learn to read CVC words with the medial sound A. This game will help your child to learn to blend three-letter words with the short vowel ‘a’. That means, to put sounds together to make a word. The child has to be able to feel and hear the word that is being sounded out. This game is supplied in both colour and black and white - you choose how you print! We suggest laminating the pieces for durability. Who is the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: A for? Those who are just beginning to sound out/blend CVC words with the A short vowel sound. These may be: Young learners Special needs learners ESL/EFL learners of any age. Who can use the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: A? Parents Homeschoolers/home educators Teachers in class, or for use in centers Those involved in intervention work Private tutors How can the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: A be used? It can be played as a game for 2 players It can be used as a matching activity for individual pupils It can be used for assessment purposes To make the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: A Simply print out the two baseboards. Print out the word cards and cut them up. Teach your pupil to take care of the cards and not bend them more than can be helped. To play the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: A Take a base board each. Scatter the word cards face down. Take it in turns to take a word card. Read it. If it matches a picture on your baseboard, place it in the correct space. If not, return it to the pool of cards. Play continues until someone completes their board, or until all the cards are used up. Teaching tips: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your turn and invite your pupil’s help when it is your turn, so s/he gets even more practice. Your pupil will need a lot of blending practice so be patient. If your pupil has difficulty sounding out these words then spend more time practicing blending before playing the game again. In this resource, your students will have a take home brochure to help them think of and remember ways to calm down and cope with big feelings. There are 6 sections of this resource. There are SEL coloring pages in this resource. The first section is the cover page with has a mindfulness coloring activity that students can customize to their liking. This in and of itself is a coping skill! Next you have a place where students can use their name and use the acronym of their name to help them come up and customize how they would like to calm down when they have a big feeling. For example, if the name is Jenny, they can write; J is for make a joke or listen to a joke, E is for Exercise, N is for Try something New, the other N is for Notice objects in the room (such as all the things that are green, blue, etc.) and the Y is for do yoga poses. On of the pages is the directions and the other page (flap) is for them to write their own name and customize their strategies. One of the flaps give them the acronym of CALMS which stands for C-Calming Exercises, A-Activities that distract (reading, playing a game or sport, puzzle, word search, etc) L-Look around the room (Look for all the blue objects, Look for things you see that begin with the letter A, etc.) and then M-Mindfulness practices. These are things that really bring students into the present moment. Look for 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you taste, etc. The S is for Sensations. Do things that make you feel different sensations that are pleasant such as place an ice pack on your forehead, go into a hot shower or hot tub, etc. Taste something sweet or spicy. These are all the things that can help someone cope with a strong feeling.

Fall Domino Game Numbers 0–30 and Number Words This autumn domino game is a hands-on way for students to practice both numbers and number words from 0 to 30. I introduced it during the fall term with my grade 1 class, and the students immediately understood the rules because it follows the familiar domino format. The seasonal design added a nice touch, but the main benefit was the repeated practice with connecting numbers and words. The set includes 68 cards in total, with two different versions. One version shows the standard number words, while the second version breaks the words into syllables. I noticed that the syllable version was especially helpful for younger readers or for students who still found longer number words challenging. Words such as “seventeen” or “twenty-four” became easier to read and pronounce when broken down into smaller parts. The game can be adjusted by number range, which makes it easy to differentiate. With beginners, I often start with 0–10 so that the game feels manageable. Later I expand the set to 0–20, and eventually the full 0–30 for more advanced groups. Because of this flexibility, the same set can be reused throughout the year with different levels of learners. There are several ways to play. In small groups, students take turns matching numbers with the correct number words, trying to be the first to play all their cards. In a whole-class setting, I sometimes spread the cards across the floor and let students work together to build one long domino chain. This version turns the game into a collaborative activity and gets everyone moving while still practicing number recognition. Preparation is simple. Print the cards, cut them apart, and laminate them if you want to reuse the set in future years. I keep mine in small envelopes labeled with 0–10, 0–20, and 0–30 so I can quickly pull the right range for each group.
