This microscopes reading comprehension contains the following: Visualize on the Cover (Teacher Read Aloud Script) Start your lesson by taking a few moments to visualize the topic and share thoughts or feelings about it. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. FULL CATALOG OF DOWNLOAD LINKS AND ENCYCLOPEDIA INDEX HERE Lesson Snapshot Title: Microscopes Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Science (scientific tools) Primary Topic: How microscopes magnify; parts; history Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): Q What This Lesson Teaches Best Explains how microscopes make tiny objects look larger so people can explore what they can’t see with eyes alone. Teaches how a compound microscope uses two lenses (objective lens first, then the eyepiece) to create a bigger picture. Describes key microscope parts and what they do (slide, stage with clips, coarse focus knob, fine focus knob, iris diaphragm). Introduces resolution as an important idea for seeing details clearly, not just making things bigger. Connects science tools to history and innovation (Robert Hooke and Micrographia , Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, and electron microscopes). Learning Goals Describe what a microscope does using details from the passage. Explain how the objective lens and eyepiece work together in a compound microscope. Identify the job of the coarse focus knob and the fine focus knob when making an image look crisp. Explain how the iris diaphragm helps control light when viewing pale samples. Define resolution as the passage describes it and explain why it matters. Compare light microscopes and electron microscopes based on what they use to see tiny structures. Key Vocabulary From the Text Objective — lens close to sample that makes the first enlarged image. Eyepiece — top lens you look through that enlarges the picture again. Diaphragm — part that controls how much light comes through. Resolution — how close two points can be and still look separate. Vacuum — space with no air where samples sit in electron microscopes. Cored Ed Encyclopedia Overview The Cored Ed Encyclopedia is a weekly series of lessons that you can pick up and use right away. These short readings fit into whatever time you have available. Each one includes a warm-up, a reading, and a set of questions, but it’s flexible — you can do just the reading, the full lesson, or skip the writing section if you need to. Each lesson focuses on a single topic so students don’t get lost. The writing is clear but never childish, making it perfect for grades two through five. Topics range from animals and science to history, inventions, and everyday things. No matter the level of the student, everyone should take away at least one new idea or fact from each lesson. The materials are easy to print, easy to explain, and require no setup. They work well for whole-class teaching, partner work, or independent study.

Letter U Playdough Mats

Letter U Playdough Mats
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities

These letter U playdough mats allow students to build those fine motor muscles while learning about things that begin with the letter U. Each mat features an easy to recognize picture of a word that starts with U for students to use playdough to create. These mats are suitable to preschoolers and kindergartners who are learning about the initial sound of the letter U and those who need extra practice building up their fine motor skills. There are 3 different playdough mats in this set: U is for umbrella. U is for upset. U is for unicycle. Students can build their creations on the table top or directly on the playdough mat if laminated or placed in page protectors. When to Use Fine Motor Center Playdough Center Alphabet Center Literacy Center Independent Activity Small Group Activity Morning Tub or Basket Activity Table Top Activity Skills Assessed Fine Motor Skills Color Matching Beginning Sounds Letter Recognition The playdough mats themselves are no prep. The teacher will simply print them out, and laminate them if desired and place them in the appropriate center or activity area. All that needs to be added to this activity is different colored playdough or clay. These mats not only provide a fun and engaging activity for students to practice fine motor skills, they also provide a way for students to associate the initial sound of the letter U to recognizable pictures. Teachers will love the easy set up for this center activity. By laminating these pages, teachers will have a reusable playdough center for students to use over and over. The playdough should not stick to the laminated pages. If laminating is not an option, I would recommend placing the playdough mats inside of page protectors or in plastic sleeves. The playdough will not stick to their surfaces as well.

Recycling Workshop Home-School Connection

Recycling Workshop Home-School Connection
Social Studies, Grade 3, Activities, Projects

Have you been learning about the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle? Now that your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade students know what it means to recycle, it's time to put that concept into action. Students will find an object at home that would otherwise be trash and recycle it into something wonderful! Once they've completed their projects at home, they will bring them to school and get going on the second part of the workshop, which is a how-to writing outlining the steps they took to recycle their objects. Students will introduce their projects, discuss transition words, draw pictures of each step, and write a final draft. As a conclusion to the workshop, students will show their completed objects to the class and share their completed how-to writings with their classmates. The ultimate objectives are to put recycling into action, write a clear how-to essay so others can do the same at home, and share those essays with others. It's been a crowd favorite for three years running! In this product you will find a letter to send home to parents and students outlining the at-home expectations for the project, an outline for a rough draft of the how-to writing with a section dedicated to possible transition words for each step of their project, and a page for students to write a final draft. There's even a spot for pictures of the students with their projects! Finally, a rubric for assessment has been included and covers both the written and oral parts of the workshop. SEL Boom Deck-Soda Pop Head With Audio

SEL Boom Deck-Soda Pop Head With Audio
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Activities

This is an SEL Boom Deck to teach students how to manage anger in a healthy way. This is a companion Boom Deck based on Julia Cook's book, Soda Pop Head. However, you do not need to read the book in order to enjoy this Boom Deck. Students will still learn some great self-regulation skills. There are 25 task cards and 5 introduction/education cards. There is audio on every single card so there is no need for reading skills. The analogy used in this deck is a soda can that explodes when anger is not handled in a healthy way. The other soda can is pointing to a light bulb to respresent thinking of a strategy to calm down. This is a child friendly image that kids can relate to. There are enough task cards to use as a whole SEL class lesson. You can also use this Boom Deck by assigning to individuals, partners and groups. Some of the strategies mentioned in this deck are; belly breathing, blowing bubbles, talking to a friend, asking for help from an adult, taking a break, walking and counting, drinking a cool glass of water, reading, using a thinking strategy and more. some of the scenarios that cause a child to be angry are; having to go to bed, fun plans get canceled, getting teased, not being able to pick out the restaurant for dinner, someone took something and is not giving it back, someone lost a special toy, and other child relatable scenarios. Please review Boom Deck's terms of use as this format does not allow me to post this. To access the Boom deck, you will download the PDF that has the Boom Deck link embedded in the image on the PDF. From there you will be directed to this Boom Deck. Enjoy!! For a related resource, check out: https://teachsimple.com/product/soda-pop-head-by-julia-cook-extension-sel-lesson-and-worksheet
