Collaborative Poster SEL Community Building

In this collaborative poster, the class will come together to create a poster that stands for what each student believes in. The poster has a rainbow with balloons and stars and the quote that is spelled out is "In our class, we are kind and respectful." Each student will get to color a piece of this puzzle. There are 30 pieces. The poster will measure 23 inches height by 35 inches wide. This will be a fun activity for each student to contribute into one large poster. This poster can be posted in the classroom, on the bulletin board on on the door. This poster is great for first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. In this file, you will receive 30 student pages with directions on each page, a full color picture of the outcome, a picture of the black and white version as well as the black and white version that is divided into 30 pieces. In the beginning of the school year, it is important to do activities that build community and shared values. When doing this poster, students can also talk about what else they believe to be important in the classroom as a community. I work as a school counselor for K-8th grade. Here is a ready-to-go terrestrial and aquatic biomes science research project for your students in 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th grade. Each student will choose a terrestrial or aquatic biome, complete focused research about it, and create an organized project with paragraphs and visuals to share their learning. How to Use: •Print pages 2-13 for each student. •Page 2 has clear instructions for the project including a website students can use to select their biome, places to write due dates, and a checklist to keep students on track. •Page 3 has seven different prompts for students to research. Each student needs to pick at least four prompts to include in their unique project. •Pages 4-6 are graphic organizers for your students to use as they take notes and record their research sources (page 6 is optional). •Pages 7-9 are templates for students to use to write at least four paragraphs about their biome (page 9 is optional). They could also type and print these paragraphs instead. •Page 10 is for students to draw plants that are found in their biome. •Page 11 is for students to draw animals that are found in their biome. •Page 12 is a title page for the project. •Page 13 is a rubric you can use to assess the project. Let students see it at the beginning of the project so they know what the expectations are. Over several weeks, your students can complete research on their biome, write and proofread their paragraphs, and draw the visual components of their project. They can present their projects to each other, and you can use the rubric to assess them. Grades to Use With: This project is designed for middle grades students in 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th grade who are learning about biodiversity and biomes, library research skills and expository writing- specifically expository paragraphs. Your high school students in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade can research buying or leasing a car and create their own personalized Car Budget . This project includes simple & realistic spreadsheets along with written reflection questions that help students consider all of the expenses of having access to a car! Classes to Use With : This project can be used with your high school students in several classes Family & Consumer Sciences Financial Literacy Applied Math or Consumer Math Career & Personal Planning High School Life Skills (where appropriate) How to Use: Print a three-page car budget project that includes spreadsheets & reflection questions for each student. Teach a quick lesson about the 3 ways to pay for a car: saving up over time to buy it, securing a loan to buy it, or leasing it and not buying it. Let students work in pairs or small groups to research key facts for each of the 3 ways to pay for a car. They will research real cars for sale in their area and calculate how many months it would take to save up for one of them, they will use a loan calculator online to see what payments will be, and they will look for local lease options in their area.
