Leaping Rubric

Leaping Rubric
P.E. & Health, Physical Education, Not Grade Specific, Rubrics, Teacher Tools

Leaping Rubric is a formative physical education assessment tool for evaluating students' skill progression in activities involving leaping actions. Suitable for physical education teachers and pre-service teachers completing EdTPA portfolios, it streamlines the scoring process with a final success score and component score scale. The full-color and black-and-white versions of the rubric support individualized or whole class evaluation. Teachers can use it to monitor skill acquisition, tailor instruction to learners' needs, provide actionable feedback, and demonstrate student growth over time. Implementation ideas include incorporating it into units on dance or gymnastics focused on various jumps and leaps or using it during culminating events like field day stations. With its clear design and easy-to-understand criteria, Leaping Rubric takes the guesswork out of assessing essential leaping competencies. The result is better insights into students’ progress as movers and more focused leaping skill development.

Looking After My Teeth Social Story

Looking After My Teeth Social Story
Special Resources, Life Skills, Not Grade Specific,

Social stories use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation however social stories can also be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event. This social story is about the importance of looking after your teeth, brushing them twice a day and visiting the dentist. These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them. Clipart images courtesy of Kari Bolt.

In this lesson, students will learn about how to be good sports. They will learn about poor versus good sportsmanship. There is a 6 slide Google Presentation that guides the lesson. Please review the slide notes on each slide to better understand the directions and flow of the lesson. The 7th Slide is a personalized handout you can create for each student with their name and it will state " Jenny Is A Good Sport" or whatever you would like to say on it. Simply click on the Word Art and change the name or words for your sports' personalized mindfulness coloring sheet. This is a great extension to this lesson. The lesson begins with a quick opener of having the students do 5 wall or floor push-ups. This is a great opener and engagement activity. Then student will think-pair-share with a partner about poor versus good sportsmanship examples. Then they can share out or you can have a student or two write down the poor versus good examples in a T chart on the Smartboard or a poster sheet. Next students will tally the amount of good sportsmanship examples they see in a Youtube video. Discuss everyone's calculations! Next, you will discuss the directions to the game of slapjack (the video is in the slide on Slideshow and also in the Slide Notes). This is where the teachable moments come in. Say to the class "Please look for the person in your group who is showing Good Sportsmanship" behaviors. After the game, ask students to write down the name of someone of a couple people who showed good sportsmanship behaviors. Then as you say the names, ask the students to echo each name to honor those students. Lastly, if there is time or on another day, copy the personalized handouts for each student with their name. You may change the wording if you wish!!!
