This 'ee' phonic reading book tells about what happened when Sam had sweets in his rucksack! This is the ninth book to read in Level 1 of the FREE Reading Made Simple phonic reading scheme - a highly structured, successful phonic reading programme for all, especially struggling readers. It practices the words see, sweets, green, meet while revising words with ck and oo. The books should be read in order. You can find other books in the series in the Lilibette's Resources store. These first phonic readers are suitable for use with all phonic programmes when children know the sounds ck, oo and ee. Who are these first readers for? These decodable readers provide a graded, word-controlled phonics reading programme for children of ages and abilities, including special needs. They work well with children with processing difficulties including /dyslexia, or suspected Dyslexia, and autism due to the fact that they are so highly structured. Who can use these first phonic readers? Parents, teachers, special needs teachers, private tutors, anyone who needs them! About these first Phonic readers These books focus exclusively on sounding out words and they only use the key sight (red/sight) words which are introduced only gradually. These sight words should be learned on flashcards first, but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. All of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers, to help develop confidence and fluency. Each book lists the sight word/s being used in that book at the beginning. There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Special needs Due to the systematic, phonetic nature of these books, they are highly suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner, or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. They have been thoroughly tested by my current pupils all of whom are boys. Even my nine-year old boy pupil loves them. They can also be used with young EFL/ESL/EAL learners. CVC Reading Book 4 CVC Reading Book 4 is the fourth in a 16-book series designed to help beginning readers sound out simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words. Using a systematic, phonetic approach, the CVC Reading Books introduce common CVC word families in a strategic sequence to develop decoding, reading fluency, and confidence. Book 4 focuses on CVC words with short vowel sounds like "cat," "log," and "top." The story features farmer Tom, his family, and his animals. Minimal pictures allow young readers to gain meaning from the text instead of guessing. Only 5 key sight words are gradually introduced. These decodable readers work well with any phonics program. Special needs, ESL/EFL learners, and struggling readers often benefit from the methodical phonics instruction. Here is a simple game to help children learn to read CVC words with the medial sounds O and U. This game will help your child to learn to blend three-letter words with the short vowels ‘o’ and 'u'. That means, to put sounds together to make a word. The child has to be able to feel and hear the word that is being sounded out. This game is supplied in both colour and black and white - you choose how you print! We suggest laminating the pieces for durability. Who is the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U? Those who are just beginning to sound out/blend CVC words with the O and U short vowel sounds. These may be: Young learners Special needs learners ESL/EFL learners of any age. Who can use the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U? Parents Homeschoolers/home educators Teachers in class, or for use in centers Those involved in intervention work Private tutors How can the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U be used? It can be played as a game for 2 players It can be used as a matching activity for individual pupils - great for centers! Print out the word cards and cut them up. Teach your pupil to take care of the cards and not bend them more than can be helped. To play the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U Take a baseboard each. Scatter the word cards face down. Take it in turns to take a word card. Read it. If it matches a picture on your baseboard, place it in the correct space. If not, return it to the pool of cards. Play continues until someone completes their board, or until all the cards are used up. Teaching tips: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your turn and invite your pupil’s help when it is your turn, so s/he gets even more practice. Your pupil will need a lot of blending practice so be patient. If your pupil has difficulty sounding out these words then spend more time practicing blending before playing the game again. B and D Reversal — A Structured Daily Intervention programme to tackle a real problem: Dyslexic Logic Font used with permission. B and D reversal is one of the most persistent problems in early literacy. This resource is still being trialled. I created it for a proudly dyslexic 11-year-old whose ongoing b/d/ confusion is causing him much discouragement. In theory, it should work, but it does need the teacher to hold the line for the pupil for as long as it takes - a long-rooted plant is not pulled out easily, and likewise an ingrained habit is not changed easily. If you too have a desperate pupil - please join the trial! I am happy to receive feedback. The Problem Children who confuse these two letters are not being careless, nor are they failing to try, as some suppose. They know that Bee says 'b' and Dee says 'd' — they have moved beyond learning beginning sounds. The problem is not knowledge — it is retrieval. When a child is writing at speed, the brain cannot always pull up the right letter shape quickly enough. The child starts to write, and the wrong shape is already on the page. They do not have time to sit there working out which way round a b or a d goes. They guess. And nine times out of ten , they get it wrong. The teacher points out the errors. The child feels dumb. Parents and teachers scour the web for a solution. They try one thing after another with the same fruitless results. The usual approaches — the bed trick, the b hand, repeated correction — all share the same flaw. They ask the child to retrieve the correct answer from memory under pressure. The b hand fails because the child cannot remember which hand is which. That is precisely what they cannot do reliably. A strategy that depends on the thing that is broken will not fix the thing that is broken. The Solution Remove the need to retrieve the correct shape and formation from memory entirely. This pack gives the child a simple visual reference — a card with a picture embedded in each letter shape, fixed permanently to the desk, with a clear starting point for letter formation marked on each letter. One glance before writing, and the right letter is there. No memory required. No cognitive load. Just the correct letter, every time. The Dyslexic Logic Font — used with permission — is used throughout. This helps pupils establish the correct letter shape more easily. What is included Table cards for the desk, bookmarks for reading books and folders, and smaller cards for use wherever your child writes. Every format ensures the cue is always within reach — because a cue that is not there cannot help.
