A phonic CVC Words Reading Book for young/SEN/ESL readers. This is the first of 15 phonic reading books to support the blending of CVC words with a short vowel sound, suitable for those who just beginning to read with phonics. These books focus exclusively on sounding out words and they only use the key sight (red/tricky) words a, is, the, of, which are introduced only gradually. These short words should be learned on a flashcard first, but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. All of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers, to help develop confidence and fluency. The book s begins with just a few words being introduced. For example, the first book only uses the words a, at, cat, fat, rat, ran. The whole scope and sequence is included in the pack for your reference. Each book lists the sight word/s being used in that book at the beginning. There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help to make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, so aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Due to the systematic, phonetic nature of these books, they are highly suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner, or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. They have been thoroughly tested by my current pupils all of whom are boys. Even my nine-year old boy pupil loves them. Either let the child select/find a picture and then find the sound it begins with, or vice versa. Sound match: Select the sounds you want your pupil to practice - the number can vary according to the needs of the child: find the matching letters and pictures. Place one set, either letters or pictures, on the table, spread out. Hold the other in your hand. Show the child a card from your hand and ask the pupil to find the matching letter/picture. Play I Spy: Place a selection of letters and pictures (not necessarily matching) on the table face up. Say, I spy with my little eye the letter (and say the sound), or something that begins with the sound ... (say the sounds). Play memory match: turn a selection of pictures and their matching letters face down on the table. Take it in turns to choose 2 cards, turn them over and see if they match...replace any that do not - but can you remember where they are for when you need them? Children love this game! Reading Made Simple — Free OW (snow) Phonics Workbook These little workbooks have been a quiet favourite with families using Reading Made Simple for some time now. Each one focuses on a single sound and prints on just one sheet of A4 paper — double-sided, folded in half to make a neat A5 booklet that children can hold and work through at their own pace. They are entirely optional. The phonics programme works perfectly well without them, but many parents and teachers find them a useful companion — either as structured practice or simply as a source of ideas to dip into when needed. Tested by real children: One 5-year-old user is quoted as having said, 'The worksheet is the best bit of my lessons!' Other parents have noted that their child likes the worksheet because 'they think it is easy'. When learning is broken down into small, achievable steps, with no curve balls to throw them off track, every child can say, 'I can read!' When I hear these reviews, I know that I have succeeded in my aim to write a phonics curriculum that can help children of all abilities learn to read and spell. Each workbook offers a gentle mix of activities built around the target sound. Children will read short passages that practise the new sound alongside words from sounds already taught, track and identify the sound within words to support both reading and spelling, practise spelling and sentence writing, and work through simple editing exercises where they spot and correct mistakes. These small editing tasks are particularly worthwhile — they encourage children to look carefully at words rather than guessing from context. The workbooks are particularly well-suited to younger children just beginning their phonics journey, and to older children with special educational needs who are still building their foundational reading and spelling skills. That said, they will not suit every child. Some will find them too long, others too straightforward. Use your own judgement — pick the activities that fit, leave the rest, or set them aside entirely. There is no obligation and no right or wrong way to use them. To print: print double-sided, flipping on the short edge. Fold in half to create your A5 booklet. The answer page at the back is optional. One sheet of paper. One sound. Everything a child needs to practise, consolidate and grow in confidence.

This 'ee' phonic reading book is the fourth book to read in Level 1 of the FREE Reading Made Simple phonic reading scheme and only includes words with CVC,CVCC/CCVC, ck, oo and ee words. It practices the words see, tree, feed, and sleep while revising words with ck and oo. The books should be read in order. You can find other books here: Book 1 Book 2 Book 3 These first phonic readers are suitable for use with all phonic programmes when children know the sounds ck, oo and ee. Special features of the Digraph Reading Books This series of books focuses exclusively on sounding out words and only uses a minimal number of key sight (red/tricky) words. These short words should be learned on a flashcard first but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. The words being introduced in the reading programme for the first time are listed at the beginning of each book. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. All of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers giving repetition of vocabulary, to help develop confidence and fluency. Highly structured Very systematic There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help to make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, so aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Due to the highly systematic, phonetic nature of these books, they are very suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. They have been thoroughly tested by my current pupils all of whom are boys. Even my nine-year old boy pupil loves them. They can also be used with young EFL/ESL learners. Who is the ee reading book for? Beginner readers who can sound out/blend both CVC and CCVC/CVCC words with a short vowel sound and who now starting to learn the digraphs.
