Math Project: How to Make Circle Graphs and Pie Charts

Math Project: How to Make Circle Graphs and Pie Charts
Math, Percentages, Geometry, Graphing, Statistics, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Projects, Activities

This fun math project includes clear step-by-step instructions to show your students how to make a circle graph. This is a great way to review several math skills while showing how useful they can be! Tasks include: - Writing a survey question: Your students learn to write a question that has exactly six possible answers. - Collecting data: Your students can ask the members of your class their question. They collect data using a tally chart. They need to ask exactly 25 people. - Recording results as a fraction: Once they have their data, they can turn each answer into a fraction with a denominator of 25. - Calculating an equivalent fraction: Then, they calculate an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. - Working with percent (written as a decimal): Finally, they turn that fraction into a percent in decimal form. They use this percent to multiply by 360 degrees in a circle (they can use a calculator for this part) to find out how many degrees each answer gets. - Drawing angles with a protractor: They carefully draw the six angles in their pie chart, one by one. - Labeling a graph: They label the graph to make it clear for others to read. Grades to Use WIth: This math project works well in the middle grades (4-8) when students know how to use protractors, calculate with fractions and decimals, and make graphs. It could also work well in a high school special education classroom. What's Included: A total of 5 pages. in PDF Format Title Page Survey Page Equivalent Fractions Page Decimals Page Circle Graph Template Standards: 7th Grade Geometry: Draw shapes with specific conditions. 4th Grade Fractions: Write equivalent fractions. Write fractions as equivalent decimals out of 100. 6th Grade Ratios and Proportional Relationships Work with percentages.

Political Spectrum Left to Right Political Party Research & Lesson

Political Spectrum Left to Right Political Party Research & Lesson
Social Studies, Government, Research, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Lesson Plans, Activities

Want to teach your students about the political spectrum, but don't know where to start? This comprehensive lesson introduces the idea of the political spectrum (left vs. right), the basic values for each side, and common political values in any region. Here is a simple introduction to the political spectrum and political beliefs that can apply to any country or region. It includes: - A handout that shows the names of left and right kinds of government (Communist, Socialist, Liberal, Moderate, Conservative, Right Wing, Fascist) and their main beliefs about the economy, social programs, moral issues, values, progress, and human nature. - A sorting task (cut and paste) of political beliefs on crime and punishment, social programs, the economy, abortion, guns, freedom of expression and more. Students cut out the 12 statements and sort 6 to the left and 6 to the right. Then they try to think of (or research) some beliefs that would fall more to the centre. - A research graphic organizer for local political parties (municipal, state/provincial or federal in any country). The teacher can assign what level of government students should research. Then they find 2-3 local political parties at that level and see their stance on issues like the economy, moral issues, social programs, progress, and crime. Finally, they can decided where on the political spectrum they think each party should fall. - A reflection with questions to get students thinking about this way of classifying political parties. Does it sow division or create harmony? Does it apply accurately to the parties they researched? Does it match well with their own personal beliefs? What's Included: 5 page PDF: Title Page, Handout, Cut and Paste Activity, Local Political Party Research, Reflection Grades to Use With: This lesson is designed for students in grades 7-12, high school special education, or adult education classes. Financial Literacy Vacation Math Project: Budgeting and Percentages

Financial Literacy Vacation Math Project: Budgeting and Percentages
Life Studies, Math, Decimals, Money, Measurements, Finance, Home Economics, Percentages, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Activities, Projects

This vacation math project turns budgeting and percentages into a family road trip. Students pick one of three trip cards (Pinecrest Lake, Red Mesa Desert Park or Harbor City), each with its own family size, number of nights, grocery money and starting budget. From there they plan the whole trip on paper, working out every cost from prices printed on the pages, so no internet research is needed. Along the way students find gas cost from a road map, miles per gallon and price per gallon, compare a percent-off motel coupon, a free-night rental deal and a resort with an added fee, order a diner dinner with 7% sales tax and an 18% tip, and price two attractions for the whole family, applying a group discount only when the family is big enough. A surprise cost card and a Money Check follow. If the plan goes over budget, students change a choice and run the numbers again. The project closes with a budget table showing each category as a percent of the starting budget, a 10 x 10 grid to shade the budget split, a gas price what-if question and short written reflections. What's included: 7 student pages plus 3 pages of answer key and teacher support (10 pages in all). Choose Your Trip and The Drive (road map with miles) Where to Stay (three lodging deals per destination) Dinner Out with a Tip Check estimate Activities Board and Surprise! cost card Money Check, Fix It and Finish, and a note to the family Where Did the Money Go? budget table and 10 x 10 percent grid What If Gas Costs More? and Think It Over questions Answer key with fixed answers for all three trips, a complete sample plan, common mistakes and a project scoring guide Grades: designed for grades 5 to 8 working on decimals, percent of a number, percent off and percent of a total. Formats: each download has two versions: full color and black and white for low-ink printing.

Balance Scale Equations Worksheet – Visual Algebra

Balance Scale Equations Worksheet – Visual Algebra
Math, Algebra, Grade 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

This balancing algebraic equations worksheet uses a hanging balance scale to show grades 6 and 7 why solving an equation means doing the same thing to both sides. Lidded boxes labeled x and round counters worth 1 sit on each pan, so students can see, count and cross off their way to the value of x. A worked example on page 1 walks through 2x + 3 = 11 with a four-row frame: write the equation, record what is left after removing counters, find x, then check. Students then move through six short parts that change the kind of thinking each time. What students do Part A: read four one-step scales, write each equation and find x Part B: solve three two-step scales using the equation, after-removing, x and check rows Part C: decide whether four moves on 2x + 6 = 14 keep the beam level or tip it, then explain one Part D: draw boxes and counters on empty scales to match two equations, then solve Part E: find the step where a student subtracted 4 instead of dividing by 4, and correct it Part F: a challenge scale with boxes on both pans, 3x + 1 = x + 11 Format: 4 pages (3 student pages and 1 answer key) with 16 tasks. You get two files: a full color copy and a black and white copy that prints cleanly on any printer. The answer key follows the same part names and item numbers and lists every equation, value of x and check.

(Social & Emotional Learning) skills to adolescents. Containing relevant and up-to-date research, these worksheets help teachers foster students’ development of strong social and emotional skills through hands-on experiences, supported based on both interpersonal neurobiology and cognitive-behavioral principles. Using interactive worksheets, students will engage with realistic (and often high-stake) scenarios that depict physically, emotionally, cognitively, materially, and digitally/cyberly, from peers, from family, from romantic partners, and much more, as they explore consent and communicating when under stress, the fawn response vs. fight or flight response, location tracking, the rupture and repair cycle, trauma dumping, peer pressure, etc. Using guided written prompts as well as fill-in-the-blank and scripting exercises with reflection questions and self-assessments, students will grow their understanding of and ability to demonstrate self-control, stay calm under pressure, use assertive communication with others, and ultimately build a lifetime of autonomy through satisfying relationships. Included with the worksheets are a full Visual Asset Library (boundary typology continuum, discomfort-resolution flowchart, spheres of digital agency), complete answer keys; example responses; foundational knowledge quizzes; and an extensive Teacher Implementation Guide including psychological safety protocols, differentiation between middle and high school, and detailed information about how to use this resource in the classroom or during counseling sessions, with homeschoolers, or in youth programs. This digital (PDF) resource is the ideal tool for teachers to develop emotional regulation, distress tolerance, assertive communication, and autonomous interpersonal relationships for students as they learn to navigate friendships, romantic partnerships, social media, and family dynamics from a place of confidence and respect. Reasons why Parents/Schools Appreciate It: Trauma-Informed and Psychologically Safe: Explicitly identified protocols (Third Party Rule, opt-out options, validation versus correction) that allow for the protection of vulnerable students while still getting credit for the Social and Emotional Learning standards. Entirely "Ready to Go" and requires no prep time (40 pages of theory, 10 Scenario Worksheets, visual aids, answer keys and individualised teacher guides). Print once and immediatley begin teaching. Relevance with Real Life: Addresses current adolescent issues such as cyber boundaries, tracking locations, group chat pressure, love bombing and smear campaigns through engaging, appropriate, context sensitive scenarios. Demonstrated Skill-Building: Transition from theory to practice using scripting, somatic awareness and mastery reflections, creating measurable improvement in assertiveness and self-esteem. Flexible and Scalable (can be used by teachers in whole classes, small groups, individually or as independent study). Can be adapted from Middle School up to High School. Target Student Grade Levels: The curriculum is intended for students in grades 6 through 12 (middle and high school) as well as for teachers implementing it in classrooms. This is reflected in the Teacher Implementation Guide, sections beginning on pages 39-40, with examples of differentiation for middle schoolers and high schoolers as described below: For middle schoolers (grades 6-8), examples are provided, emphasizing peer relationships and how those relationships can lead to digital exclusion, as well as using a scripted role-playing activity. For high schoolers (grades9-12), the focus is on the complexities/differences of exploring nuances, emotional manipulation, gaslighting, intimate partner relationships, and the interconnectedness of digital technologies. The curriculum can be effectively used in Health, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Advisory, Psychology, Counseling, Life Skills, and Advisory/Homeroom classes, as well as in after school programming, by school counselors, through families who are homeschooling, and by youth groups.
