Illustration Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Illustration Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Illustration Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this illustration vocabulary puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our art and reading unit. The kids could look at pictures in books but had no idea what words like illustration, sketch, or caption meant when I asked them to describe what they saw. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like illustration, sketch, outline, color, shading, texture, detail, background, foreground, caption, panel, character, setting, mood, and visual. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the illustration vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or during read aloud. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the foreground is in front or behind. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple paintbrush, paper, and star drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a simple illustration on the back and label it. The kids actually ask for these now.

The kids knew Biden and Trump but had no idea about presidents from the 1900s like FDR, Kennedy, or Reagan. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the 20th and 21st century names finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about who was president during World War II. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple White House and seal drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one fact about FDR on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Slavery and Abolition word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this slavery and abolition puzzle set for my 4th graders during our Civil War unit. The kids had heard the words but had no clear idea what slavery was or who worked to end it. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like slavery, abolition, abolitionist, freedom, enslaved, plantation, owner, escape, underground railroad, conductor, Douglass, Tubman, Lincoln, emancipation, and justice. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally make sense. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the Underground Railroad was actually a railroad. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple lantern and railroad track drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one fact about Harriet Tubman on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Body Parts word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this body parts puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our health unit. The kids could point to their head and hands but had no idea what words like shoulders, knees, or toes were called in a puzzle. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like head, hair, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, tongue, neck, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, hands, fingers, chest, stomach, back, hips, legs, knees, ankles, feet, toes, and skin. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the body part names finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the elbow is above or below the shoulder. The crossword I use for partners with picture clues. I added a couple simple body outline and face drawings but nothing too busy. Works for K through 2nd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers label five body parts on a drawing on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
