Back to School Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this back to school vocabulary puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during the first week of school. The kids were excited but had no idea what words like schedule, locker, or supply meant when I tried to explain the daily routine. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like school, teacher, student, desk, chair, board, marker, crayon, pencil, eraser, ruler, glue, scissors, paper, notebook, folder, backpack, lunch, recess, and playground. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the school vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about what belongs in a backpack vs. a desk. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple apple, pencil, and schoolhouse drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for K through 2nd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their favorite school supply on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
