About This Product

A complete speaking and listening practice lab for English learners in grades 4-5, built in the shape of the ACCESS for ELLs test: timed listening folders with one hearing, picture and text answer choices, picture-prompt speaking tasks with fixed think and record windows, and scored sample responses. Everything is original to this product: original talks, original pictures drawn for this lab, a model student named Dani who answers every speaking task first, and two house scoring instruments written for this lab.

THE LISTENING LAB (3 parallel forms, 90 items)

Each form carries 10 folders and 30 items, and the three forms never repeat a talk or a question, so the lab runs three full sittings across the year. Folders climb in three tiers. Tier A (Folders 1-4): short talks of about 40 to 60 words, answered from pictures. Tier B (Folders 5-8): two-voice conversations and narrations of about 80 to 100 words, answered from text choices. Tier C (Folders 9-10): expository talks of about 125 to 130 words. Content areas cycle through Social and Instructional Language, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Across the 90 items: 45 detail, 11 cause and effect, 10 main idea, 9 sequence, 9 inference, 4 word meaning, and 2 arithmetic in context. Every item ships with an explained key that quotes the line of the talk that proves the answer, and the full scripts print in File 06, never in student booklets.

THE SPEAKING LAB (3 sets, 27 tasks)

Each set holds 3 panels, and each panel holds the same three task types: a picture description (think 5 seconds, speak 20), a sequence narrative (think 8, speak 40), and an opinion task with a printed situation read aloud (think 10, speak 60). Before the student's turn, Dani answers a parallel task on a parallel picture, so every student hears a model at the target level first. Panels cover a school morning, plants and motion, the school store and measuring, stories and books, our community, weather, time and money, maps and travel, and plays and reading. A practice round opens every set. Six retake and extension prompts reuse the same pictures later in the year.

THE AUDIO (45 narrated files, masters and splits)

Every listening form and speaking set is recorded: 6 master files plus 39 splits (one per folder, one per panel), so you can replay a single folder without replaying a whole form. Listening masters run about 20 to 21 minutes with the answer pauses built in; speaking masters run about 15 minutes with the think windows, record tones, and stop tones built in. Speakers are labeled by role in the printed scripts (teacher, adult woman, adult man, narrator, girl, boy, and Dani).

SCORING (two house instruments, 12 scored samples)

The Quick Score reads one task in about a minute against Dani's model and the task's printed look-fors (0 to 3). The Level Read reads a student's three responses in a set against the lab's own six-level rubric card (discourse, sentence, word and phrase, with a comprehensibility check) and sets a practice level. Twelve scored sample responses, two at each level from 1 to 6, print as annotated transcripts that show exactly which words in the response earned the level. A practice level in this lab is a house reading for classroom use; this product does not convert it to any test score or proficiency level, and it never claims to.

GOOGLE FORMS (4 forms, copy links printed in File 14)

Three self-grading listening forms (30 items each, 1 point per item, the explained key shown after every answer) and one rubric-entry speaking form that carries the Level Read fields from File 11. Print the answer sheets or collect answers in the forms; student codes only, no names.

WHAT IS INSIDE (14 print files, 156 pages)

Teacher Guide with three administration modes and a claims ledger that states plainly what this lab is and is not; three listening booklets; answer sheets; listening scripts and explained key (29 pages); three speaking booklets; speaking scripts and model responses; scoring tools with recording sheets for every set; scored sample responses; retake and extension prompts; and a progress tracker with a student can-do chart, the digital component list, image credits, and terms. All 162 pictures are original illustrations drawn for this product; no photographs and no stock images are used.
