About This Product

An adapted PE pickleball unit for a mixed ability class: 7 lessons, each with Level A, B, and C options, plus rules at three levels, a station rotation, a skill rubric, a class record, a round robin, and student self rate cards.

Why I made this: Pickleball is the lifetime sport my students are most likely to see again, at a rec center, a park, or with family. A small court, a slow ball, and the two bounce rule make it work for almost everyone, and balloons and lowered nets cover the rest. It is also a sport my 18 to 21 students can play in the community.

What's included:

• Teacher overview, level definitions, and a 7 day unit calendar

• Standard and modified equipment, space setup, and safety and inclusion notes

• 7 lessons with Level A, B, and C on every page: grip and ready position, forehand and backhand, the serve, dinking and the kitchen, volleys and the two bounce rule, scoring and modified games, and a round robin day

• A court and rules page with ball, bounce, net, scoring, and court size at three levels

• A 5 station rotation, a skill check rubric, and a class record sheet

• A 5 team round robin chart (checked so every team plays every other team once) and a score sheet

• Student self rate cards

How I use it: I teach one lesson a day, run the station rotation as a review, and finish with the round robin. Students choose ball, net height, and number of bounces as part of their level, so mixed teams can play the same game.

Skills covered: paddle grip and ready position; forehand, backhand, serve, dink, and volley; the kitchen and two bounce rules; keeping score and playing fair.

Who it is for: adapted PE teachers, inclusive general PE teachers, special education teachers who run PE, and transition teachers planning community recreation.

What you download: one printable PDF, 17 pages, US Letter.
