Deep Sea Discovery is a 60-page nonfiction reading comprehension resource designed for students in Grades 6–8. Students take part in eight deep-sea research expeditions while reading and analyzing science-based passages, dive logs, sonar reports, marine biology notes, diagrams, data, maps, timelines, and expedition transcripts.

Throughout the resource, students practice using textual and visual evidence to make careful conclusions. Activities focus on nonfiction comprehension, text features, vocabulary in context, claim-evidence-reasoning (CER), compare and contrast, summarizing, cause and effect, evidence ranking, and scientific reasoning.

The eight expeditions include The Unknown Sonar Signal, Secrets of the Midnight Zone, The Lost Research Drone, Mystery of the Blue Hole, The Shipwreck Coordinates, Creatures Without Sunlight, The Hydrothermal Vent, and The Underwater Cave. Students analyze information, compare explanations, interpret evidence, and complete discovery reports based only on the information provided.
