Famous Artists word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this famous artists puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our art unit. The kids knew a few names like Picasso and Van Gogh but had no idea about artists like Frida Kahlo, Michelangelo, or Warhol, or what they were famous for. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like da Vinci, Van Gogh, Picasso, Michelangelo, Monet, Dali, Kahlo, Pollock, Matisse, Rembrandt, Warhol, and Cezanne. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the artist names and art vocabulary finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or art class. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether Monet painted Water Lilies or if da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple paint palette, brush, and color wheel drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one artist and write one famous artwork they created on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
