Library and Media Center Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this library and media center puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our library orientation. The kids loved checking out books but had no idea what words like fiction, nonfiction, call number, or barcode meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like library, media center, fiction, nonfiction, call number, spine label, author, title, illustrator, publisher, copyright, barcode, check out, due date, return, renew, overdue, fine, shelf marker, and genre. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the library terms finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between fiction and nonfiction. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple bookshelf and library card drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name their favorite fiction and nonfiction book on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
