The Bill of Rights word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this Bill of Rights puzzle set for my 4th graders during our US government unit. The kids had heard of freedom of speech but had no idea there were ten amendments or what the others protected. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like amendment, right, freedom, speech, religion, press, assembly, bear arms, search warrant, jury, trial, lawyer, cruel punishment, ten, and Constitution. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the first ten amendments finally make sense.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether you can say anything you want anywhere. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple scroll and scale drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name two rights protected by the First Amendment on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
