Tobacco and Its Effects word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this tobacco puzzle set for my 4th and 5th graders during our health unit. The kids had seen cigarettes and vaping but had no idea what nicotine was or how smoking damaged the body. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like tobacco, nicotine, cigarette, cigar, vape, e-cigarette, smoke, vaping, lungs, breathing, cancer, heart, stain, teeth, smell, addiction, harmful, chemical, tar, carbon monoxide, disease, quit, and healthy. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the tobacco facts finally stick without lecturing.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether vaping is safer than smoking. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple lung, tooth, and no smoking sign drawings but nothing too graphic.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name two ways smoking hurts your body on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
