Two Step Word Problems 3rd Grade - Starting from total amount

About This Product

This is an editable Microsoft Word worksheet about worded two-step equations for third grade math. The worksheet starts with an example that is separated from the questions. The question type is a purchase where the total amount is known, and a price of a single item is known, and student needs to work out the price of a second item when the purchase includes several of them. Students are quided to do this in two steps without forming an actual equation.

Note that in all the questions the same process is repeated, this is intentional for 3rd grade students who are just starting to learn the concept. For some students / groups you might want a mixed one. (I'm aiming to post that later.)

The worksheet has two question pages and one answer page. At the end of the second question page there is a short self-evaluation opportunity for the student to say how they feel about this topic. This is mainly aimed for 3rd grade maths, but obviously can be used also with older students who need scaffolded worded equations.

This material refers to Common Core Standard 3.OA.D.8. However, common core standard says to use letters for unknown, this worksheet does not use letters but is a gentler introduction to the same content. These worded questions, being mathematically similar, use different phrasings to get students used to the fact that the same thing can be expressed differently in real-world questions. Scaffolding makes it easier to use with SEN students. 3 pages.
