Name letters of the alphabet and give their sounds, then locate letters hidden inside a picture and in the playground

Count sets of pictured objects, colour a stated number of them, and write the matching numeral in the box provided

Match colours to numbers from a printed key - Red 1, Blue 3, Green 2, Yellow 4, Purple 5 - and colour the numbered spaces accordingly

Name emotions, show them on their faces, sort emotion flash cards, and identify and colour the emotion they felt on the way to school

Describe their own school in speech and drawing: what it looks like, the classroom, the friends made there and the colour of the uniform

Every lesson uses the same three headings - Class discussion, Explore, Class work - so a page of ideas can be read straight off the sheet without rewriting it into a plan

Much of the week happens outside the classroom: two lessons walk the class around the school, the alphabet scavenger hunt hides letters in the playground, and "Count and find" sends children outdoors to collect a set number of objects

Prep is mostly cutting - Addendums 1 and 2 both want the alphabet letters from Resources 1 and 2 cut out and stuck to cardboard, and Addendum 5 wants the numbers from Resource 3 cut up and folded into a hat

Have red, blue, yellow and green ready before the fourth numeracy lesson; the script asks children to take out those four colours before the colour-by-number page begins

Addendum 4's exercise list - 10 jumps, 12 jumping jacks, 16 claps, 20 toe touches - counts out loud while it moves, so it works as a mid-morning break as well as a counting task

The life-skills strand closes on a lesson asking children to draw something that scares or upsets them, so leave room in the timetable to talk about what comes back

Letter recognition and letter sounds - children sing the alphabet, sit down when the letter their name begins with is called, and hunt for letters both hidden in the playground and drawn inside a worksheet picture.

Counting and numeral writing - children count pictured objects such as butterflies, colour a given number of items, and write the numeral in the block provided.

Colour-to-number matching - a numeracy page prints a key of Red 1, Blue 3, Green 2, Yellow 4 and Purple 5, and children colour each numbered space to match.

Emotional vocabulary - children name emotions, act them out on their faces, sort the Resource 4 flash cards as good or bad feelings, and colour the emotion they arrived with.

Descriptive talk and drawing - after touring the school children draw the building, their classroom, their friends, their uniform colour and the place in school where they feel safe.
