An anchor chart opens the packet with positional spelling guidance — ou at the beginning or middle of words such as ouch, couch and scout; ow at the end of words such as cow and chow, and before a final n as in clown. Closing pages then mix the two spellings: students highlight ou and ow words in different colours in a playground poem, sort picture names on an ou-or-ow page, and record their learning on a KWL grid.
