Climate Zones Project for Kids – 5 Köppen Zones
Five simplified climate types — dry, tropical, temperate, continental, and polar — are explained with their defining weather patterns, example regions, and animal adaptations, from camels surviving the dry climate to polar bears and penguins in the polar climate. Students first work through a short learning section and an exit ticket matching each climate to an animal-adaptation description, checked against a teacher's edition answer page, before starting the hands-on project. The project itself is a circular "Climate Disk": students color a world map by climate key on the Recording Sheet, then cut a wedge-shaped overlay into five color-coded pieces and glue them onto a background to build a display-ready craft. A Writing Background option and a playdough-and-lamination alternative to the Recording Sheet are both offered for classrooms that prefer a printer-friendly or reusable version.
