Successful Homework Habits for Students - SEL Lesson - Homework
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools
Do your students struggle with completing their homework? Being able to independently complete homework is a SKILL that needs to be explicitly taught to students - this product does just that! Use this social story to teach students important strategies complete homework independently and with success! About Social Story - Getting Homework Done This Social Story is an interactive book/printable designed to offer students strategies to complete their homework independently with success! Children become the main character of the story as they answer questions, color, draw pictures as they discuss strategies for completing homework independently! This resource is a great behavior support tool to teach at the beginning of the year. This is a great resource to send home with your students to encourage discussions with their parents about good homework habits! WHAT IS INCLUDED: Social Story Explanation Social Story Full Book Print-out Social Story Half-Page Print-out Discussion Guide Google Slides Ages: This book is best suited for ages 7-12. Could also be adapted for ages below and above this range! How I Use this Resource in My Classroom- I like to spend A LOT of time in the beginning of the school year teaching social stories focused positive behavior expectations. I have found that I often assume students have the skills they need to "do school", but am often humbled with the amount of explicit instruction students need surrounding skills like completing their homework. Timing- I usually schedule this social story around the end of the first month of school. I like to make sure I have sent the activity home before back-to-school night so that I can mention it with parents during my presentation. This way, families that did not have the homework discussion at home have the chance to do so... it is so important! Then, I usually re-teach the lesson halfway through the school year when students need a reminder of the important skills! How I teach it - I always teach this social story as a whole class lesson instead of in small groups. The skills included in this social story are really valuable to all students. Included in the product is a discussion guide that will walk you through exactly how to present the information to your students. I always print out the half-page version for each student. I display the teacher slides on my Active Board and the students fill out their book as I fill out the one on the board. Sending the Book Home - One of the cool aspects about this social story is that there are parts for the students to bring home and complete with their families. This fosters really great discussions around good homework habits and parents love having this as a resource. Behavior Remediation Tool - This is one of those social stories that keeps coming back many times throughout the school year. Once a student becomes a repeat offender of not completing their homework, the first thing I do is come back to this resource! I have the student review their social story and see if there are any skills they can sharpen to help them become successful at completing their homework on their own again. It opens up a great place for honest conversation and helps you determine what barriers the student is facing keeping them from being successful at this essential component of being a student. I hope you enjoy this resource! For more like it, please visit my store at Mrs Bonie Just Teach.

I Can Share Myself With Lots Of Friends | Social Skills Story and Activities
Special Resources, Social Skills, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities
Social Skills Stories & Activities break down information into small, explicit steps so that children can more easily understand what they should and should not do in a particular social situation. Social Skills Stories are a great way to explicitly teach children important social skills that they may be struggling with, such as being able to play with a variety of children. Playing with a variety of children and not insisting on always playing with just one particular child, is an important social skill. I had a student who thought he could only play with his one, favorite friend. He did not seem to understand that playing with other children, did not mean he wasn't still friends with his favorite friend. Additionally, his favorite friend sometimes felt a bit smothered by my student's attention. I wrote this story to help my student understand that it is okay to play with more than one friend. I hope it can help your students too!

Skip Counting by 2's The 'Skip Counting by 2’s' worksheets are easy-to-use teaching resources ideal for educators of Kindergarten and first grade students. This helpful resource was developed to enhance young learners' understanding of the essential skill of skip counting, specifically focusing on counting by 2's, which is pivotal in early math development. Each worksheet features an inviting, uncomplicated design with number spaces that guide students as they count from 2 to 20. These worksheets come with three different layout variations tailored to various learning styles and levels of proficiency: One version provides all numbers from 2-20 already written out for trace practice. The second version meets learners halfway, providing only a few numbers as checkpoints so the pupil can fill in the rest while practicing skip counting. The last activity sheet challenges budding Mathematicians further because it only shows the number '2', asking them to complete the form using their knowledge gained from counting practice. 'Skip Counting by 2’s' not only introduces youngsters to numerical sequences but also sows seeds for understanding multiplication further down their academic journey. Skip counting emphasizes that multiplication is simply repeated addition; for example - adding 'two' ten times equates multiplying ten by two! Additionally, these activities align perfectly with core standards: K.CC.A1 through K.CC.A3 concerning counting techniques and numeral representation up to twenty objects. '1.OA.C5’ and ‘1.NBT.A1’ relating to applying addition or subtraction as alternative methods in specific situations along with numeracy training less than one hundred twenty. Articles 4–7 of the U.S. Constitution – Lesson
Social Studies, Government, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, 12,
Often our instruction of the Constitution does not include a deeper look at Articles 4, 5, 6, and 7. The purpose of this lesson, "Articles 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the United States Constitution," is to have students critically think about the significance of these Articles as they investigate their meaning. For example, for Article 4, students will analyze real-world examples to explain what provisions of Article 4 apply. For Article 5, students will explain the process for amending the Constitution. For Article 6, students will answer questions about the general provisions in the Constitution that explain what makes the Constitution the supreme law of the land and the fact that there are no religious requirements to hold office. For Article 7, students explain the process for ratifying the Constitution. For all the questions, I have included a key. I have included the original text of these articles as well as an annotated version so students can understand the text in plain English. This is particularly helpful for students who are ESL learners, RSP students, and struggling readers. Students will work collaboratively with a partner or in a small group to discuss Articles 4-7. This lesson is part of my unit, "Our Living Constitution," which is a comprehensive unit on the United States Constitution. Each lesson sets the foundation for future lessons. But the lessons can be used independently supplementing what you already teach. Every lesson includes the following: an Introduction or Purpose of the Lesson, Objectives, Learning Targets, Standards (California Common Core Standards and California History Standards), detailed directions, and when applicable, charts , readings, questions, and answer keys. Some lessons include summative assessments and rubrics. There are many opportunities for students to reflect on what they have learned All of the lessons are available separately online. I have also included links to some lessons that are not included in Our Living Constitution but are connected to the Constitution (Lessons 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, and the two summative projects. Into Lessons: Creating Schema Lesson 1: Overview of the Constitution of the United States of America Lesson 2: Origins of the Constitution and Essential Terms Lesson 3: The Seven Principles of the Constitution Through Lessons: Learning the Content Lesson 4: The Preamble: The Goals of the Constitution (not included in Our Living Constitution) Lesson 5: The Three Branches of Government: Articles 1, 2, and 3 Lesson 6: How a Bill Becomes a Law Lesson 7: Federalism, Separation of Powers, and Checks and Balances Lesson 8: Articles 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the United States Constitution Lesson 9: The Bill of Rights Unit (and a Little About Amendments 11-27) Extras (from the Unit: Every Four Years… The Presidential Election) Lesson 10: What Are Your Political Viewpoints ? US History Regents Short Essay "Jeffersonian Revolution" + Video
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Grade 11, Teacher Tools, Assessments
US History Regents Short Essay "Jeffersonian Revolution" + Video Lessons This product is a short essay task in the format of the new New York State Regents examination in US History and Government. The updated New York State Regents examination in United States History and Government, part II, is a short essay task designed to measure students’ ability to work with historic documents. It is a mature version of the “CRQ” found on the tenth grade Global Regents. Students are called upon to understand text, engage it with historical context, and assess a text’s reliability. In document set 1, students describe the historical context surrounding two documents and identify and explain the relationship between the events and/or ideas found in those documents (Cause/Effect or Similarity/Difference or Turning Point). Document set 2 asks students to describe the historical context surrounding two documents and (for one identified document) analyze and explain how audience, or purpose, or bias, or point of view affects the document’s use as a reliable source of evidence. [ Read more about teaching this at the Innovation blog ] If you are afraid to assign your students this as a test because they are not likely to do well at first and don’t want to bother their GPA, I recommend using standardized scoring. You can use the z-score calculator here at Innovation Assessments . Use 78 as your standard mean and 14.8 as your standardized standard deviation. Read more about standardized scoring here and where I got those figures. The beauty of this system is you can apply this to their grades every month and as the class improves, as the class average approaches the standardized mean (78 in this case), then the algorithm affects their scores less and less.
