What is included in the pack? One PDf with 2 pages: one colour mat and one black and white How to use the 'ai' digraph sound mat The 'ai' digraph sound mats can be used in various ways. Here are some ways in which I use them: After having taught my pupils the 'ai' digraph, we often need to revise which words are in the 'ai' family, as opposed to other families with the same sound. Therefore we will have a mat for each sound and we will revise the sound by reading the words in each family, from the sound mat. We learn the little sentence at the bottom as it helps the children to link words in the same family together easily in their minds. I pin the colour version on the wall for easy reference as the child goes around the home/school The child can colour the black-and-white version. As the child colours, the words in the family are grouped in the child's mind. The child can then have the ai digraph word mat on his/her desk as s/he undertakes independent writing activities. Activities: In addition to the above suggestions for use, Here are some suggestions for activities that can be undertaken using the 'ai' digraph sound mat: Can the children write a silly sentence including as many words on the mat as possible?
