Financial Literacy: Compound Interest with Percent and Formula
Life Studies, Math, Decimals, Money, Finance, Home Economics, Business, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Activities
These high school financial literacy worksheets will show your students why compound interest is helpful for investors while also letting them practice math skills using percentages and a simple mathematic formula! How to Use: Print 4 pages for each student. Page 1 teaches students how to calculate compound interest step by step. Students need to have a basic understanding of writing percentages in decimal form and multiplying to find the percent of a number. Next, students will be given their initial investment amount & a yearly interest rate. Each student in your class can be given different values so they have to do their own unique calculations, and to allow comparisons to be made. This provides for easy differentiation as well- you can choose what percentage interest rate each student gets based on their ability. Students will calculate the amount of compound interest they earn over ten years. They can then check their calculations using the compound interest formula that is included. Next, they can use the formula to calculate compound interest over longer periods of time. Your class can compare their results- leading to an interesting class discussion (prompt questions are included). Make sure to point out how compound interest is helpful for investing and saving and detrimental for borrowing money. Finally, students reflect on their learning by writing a paragraph after the lesson. Hopefully they will leave class wanting to start a saving account! Grades to Use With: This compound interest lesson with worksheets is designed for high school students in grades 8 through 12. How to Write an Email Bundle: Expository and Letter Writing ELA
Special Resources, Life Studies, ELA, Life Skills, Business, Career, Writing, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
How to Write an Email Bundle: Vocabulary Handout and 5 Sample Scenarios is a great resource as it contains 5 different guides to write polite emails. We spend so much time in the classroom teaching our students creative writing and essay writing, but when they have careers in the future, what kind of writing will occupy most of their day? Emails of course! In this assignment five specific kinds of email that high school students may need to write are high-lighted and explicitly explained. This product contains a useful one-page handout with all the necessary vocabulary to get started with emails. Then, 5 realistic scenarios that high school students might encounter now or in the coming years are included. For each scenario, rules of thumb are suggested, and a specific email task is assigned. - Emailing a teacher/coach - Emailing a job application - Emailing a potential reference - Emailing an apartment listing - Emailing a postsecondary institution How to use: Use the handout to teach your students the key vocabulary components of every email: to, carbon copy, blind carbon copy, subject, salutation, body, signature, attachments, compose, forward, reply, and reply all. Students need to know the function of each of these printables /parts-of-and-anatomy-of">parts of the email (especially to avoid the dreaded "Reply All" mistake that we have all made once or twice). Then, you can focus on one specific email example. Talk to your students about how in most of these cases they are requesting some kind of favour or help and therefore need to be conscientious and polite. Discuss how to choose an appropriate subject line and salutation with this in mind. You may want to write an entire sample email together as a class (perhaps typed on an interactive whiteboard). Finally, students are assigned a specific task to practice this type of email. They could write by hand on the provided sheet or type it up on their computer. What's Included: 7 page PDF: Title Page Vocabulary Handout Five Worksheets

Teacher Instructions: Print two-page handouts (a third with each page 1, and all with the same page 2). Split your class into three groups. Also included are real-life case studies of teenagers (amygdala hijack, perfectionism spiral, freeze response/burnout cycle); The second phase consists of a student workbook that includes ten interactive worksheets (re: affective granularity/metacognition cognitive distortion; interoceptive/somatic map; navigating the Window of Tolerance boundary architecture; digital ecosystem audit; executive function/anticipatory anxiety; and interpersonal rupture & repair); The third phase consists of visuals & teacher resources (classroom visuals, answer keys, assessment rubrics, teacher implementation guide). The three visuals contain high-fidelity representations of the Window of Tolerance diagram; cognitive-behavioral triad; multidimensional self-care matrix). The teacher resources contain answer keys for each module and rubrics for use in assessing student work. The resource was designed to be print-ready and tested in classrooms, and includes fillable blank forms and reflection items. Trauma-informed and provides safety – The material provides the students with options, breaks the stigma on emotional learning and clearly explains the reporting protocols for educators, making it a resource they can use for success in diverse classrooms. Comprehensive and multi-functional – It can be used for whole class lesson plans, small group counseling, advisory periods or as a self-help resource for individual students, one product meets several needs. Immediate learning and long term benefit – Students develop ongoing skills in emotional granularity, boundary setting, and regulating their nervous system while parents and schools experience decreased levels of anxiety and increased levels of focus. Intended Students: Students in Grades 9-12 only. All the examples, case studies, language, and content are created specifically for high school students (ages 14-18) who are dealing with academic pressures, social media, peer group dynamics, forming their identity, and normal neurodevelopmental changes in the developing teenage brain. This material is inappropriate for middle school students (too mature) or college students (too teen-focused). Farm Animals: Guided Reading Level P with Lesson Plan
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Language Development, Social Studies, Life Sciences, Economics, Pre-Reading, Grade 2, 3, 4, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments, Lesson Plans
This Farm Animals (level p) guided reading book with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Farm Animals Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Life Science Primary Topic: How common farm animals live and help people Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): P What This Book Teaches Best Describes key traits and behaviors of farm animals (for example, cows digest tough grasses; pigs use mud to regulate temperature; goats climb steep surfaces). Explains how different farm animals support people , such as animals raised for milk, meat, eggs, wool, or work (pulling plows, transporting goods). Builds understanding of animal groups and social behavior , including flocks and a “pecking order” (social hierarchy). Highlights physical features linked to survival , such as sheep’s wide field of vision to spot predators and donkeys’ large ears helping them stay cool and hear well. Introduces science vocabulary tied to the text’s concepts, including domesticated, ruminants, keratin, descendants, and hierarchy . Learning Goals Students can describe how at least three farm animals are raised or used, using details from the text. Students can explain what the text says makes cows ruminants and what their digestive system allows them to do. Students can explain why the text says pigs use mud and what mud helps them do. Students can describe how chickens live in groups and what “pecking order” means in the text. Students can identify animal body parts mentioned (hooves, feathers, webbed feet, horns) and describe what the text says they help the animal do. Students can compare two animals from the book by stating one similarity and one difference based on text evidence. Key Vocabulary From the Text ruminants — animals that chew food again and digest grass. hierarchy — an order that shows who is in charge. keratin — a hard material that makes hooves and fingernails. descendants — animals that come from earlier animals in a family line. domesticated — animals raised by people, living with or near humans. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What farm animals do you already know, and what do you think they do on a farm? Comprehension questions: What does the text say cows’ digestive system helps them do that some other animals cannot do? Comprehension questions: Why does the text say pigs use mud? Comprehension questions: What does the text say llamas can do because of their height and alert nature? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. Percent Word Problems – Taxes, Tips & Sale Prices
Life Studies, Math, Percentages, Decimals, Money, Fractions, Finance, Home Economics, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Worksheets
Percent Math Lesson: Calculating Taxes, Tips, and Sale Prices Here's a ready-to-go lesson for your middle school math unit on percentages. It encourages students to use multiple methods and mental math when calculating the tax, tip, or sale price for everyday transactions. This is one of the times you can easily say to your students, "You will use this math regularly in your life!" How to Use: Start with the handout, which goes through three simple methods for calculating percentages. Benchmark: An easy calculation strategy using familiar percentages like 1%, 10%, and 50%. Decimals: Calculating involves multiplying the amount by its matching decimal form percentage. Fractions: Division based on fraction equivalents is used for identifying certain percentage amounts. Tell your students that certain methods work best for certain situations. For example, the fraction method is great for 50% or 25% off. The benchmark method is easy when calculating a 10% tip. The decimal method works great for calculating 12% tax. Next, students have six real world math problems to tackle involving taxes, tips, and sale prices. They can use any of the strategies to solve any of the problems- they should choose the one that is the easiest to use for each scenario! Students can work individually or in pairs or small groups collaboratively. Grades to Use With: This lesson is perfect for grade 7 classes that are working on Proportional Relationships to solve multistep problems. It could also be used for enrichment in grade 6 or for a review and lesson about multiple strategies in grades 8 and 9. Finally, it could be used in high school special education classrooms. What's Included: Ready-to-print 5 Page PDF with a title page, handout, 2 pages of practice questions, and a complete answer key! Grocery Game: Estimating, Adding, and Multiplying Decimals
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Decimals, Multiplication and Division, Division, Money, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Activities, Games
Here's a fun way to practice operations with decimal numbers and money math! Play this whole-class grocery game and your students won't even notice how much decimal operations practice they are getting! It is a fun, whole class activity that you need to be able to project in your classroom on an interactive whiteboard or screen-share for distance learning. As students play along, they practice estimating to stay within a shopping budget. They have to multiply and add with decimal numbers: all helpful realistic applications. My students absolutely love playing this game, and I have included three rounds so you can play more than once! Instructions: 1) Decide on a target range. A higher range will require more challenging multiplication. If the range is tighter, it will be more difficult to win. I usually use a range such as $50-$52. 2) Tell students they must buy at least 4 of the 5 products. Students need to have a piece of paper and a pencil for calculations. 3) Choose a student to pick the first product. She needs to estimate the price for one of them, decide how many she wants to buy, and estimate how much that will cost. “I think the cheese is about $5, I want 3, so that will be around $15.” 4) Then show the price (by moving the red box with your cursor), and all students calculate the cost by hand. For example, 3 x 5.75 = 17.25. This is the start of the running total. 5) Choose another student to buy the second product. Again, have him or her estimate before calculating. Then allow all the students to calculate the cost of the second product. For example 4 x 3.19 = 12.76. 6) Now students have to switch from multiplying to adding decimals. They add the price of the second product to their running total. 17.25 + 12.76 = 30.01 7) Continue with the third, fourth, and fifth (if necessary) product. 8) Students try to spend between $50-52. It’s not always easy! Talk to the class about different strategies such as saving an inexpensive product for the end. What's Included: 5-Page PowerPoint Presentation with 3 Rounds and Complete Instructions If you like this Grocery Game try another one! Fall Edition Winter Edition Spring Grocery Game

It is designed to be both printable (digital/electronic) and neuroscience-based and consists of 41 pages of student worksheets, real-world case studies, fill in the blank knowledge checks and numerous practical breathing protocols (Box Breathing, 4-7-8 Breath, Resonant Breathing, Physiological Sigh, Extended Exhale, Alternate Nostril Breathing and 5-4-3-2-1 Sensory Grounding) along with teacher answer keys, conceptual visuals and a full trauma informed implementation guide. This curriculum teaches students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades to interrupt amygdala hijacks, switch from the sympathetic "fight, flight or freeze" to the parasympathetic "rest and digest" and develop lifelong emotional resilience through the science of somatic agency, vagus nerve stimulation, neuroplasticity and autonomic nervous system regulation. This PDF product is perfect for school counseling, advisory periods, special education and homeschool implementation. There is no prep work necessary for immediate implementation in the classroom or at home. Keywords: anxiety worksheets for middle school students, breathing exercises for relieving stress for teens, anxiety management neuroscience based printable, somatic breathing toolkit, middle school social emotional learning curriculum, tools for testing anxiety, breathing activities for social anxiety. Parents & Teachers Love This Program Because: Science Supported but Student Friendly: This program teaches students the real science (amygdala, vagus nerve, heartbeat, myelination) behind their feelings in a way that helps them stop blaming themselves for the way they feel and begins to help them take charge of who they are by understanding how their body works. No Prep, Ready to Use: The program comes with student worksheets/answer keys, teacher projectables/visuals, and teacher implementation guides (these guides include trauma informed scripts) for busy community counselors, social-emotional teachers, and parents to use to implement this program with ease. The Efficacy of the Program has been Proven over and over Again Through the Use of the Program Addresses Multiple Anxiety Triggers (such as academic tests, social/cafeterias, digital overstimulation, athletic performance, and sleep difficulties) in multiple ways along with the use of protocols which work in real-world education settings. Creates Resilience Long-term: This program teaches daily habits and neuroplasticity, enabling the student to not only survive through anxiety attacks but also rewire their brain to have a calmer baseline state. An Inclusive and Trauma Informed Program: The program includes opt-out options, soft gazing instead of closing your eyes (making it safe for all students), and addresses the awkwardness associated with these activities, therefore making it safe and respectful for all students! Designation of Eligible Student Group (Overall Analysis of Document): The full curriculum covers the department for the 6th-8th grades (a.k.a. middle school or early adolescent age ~ 11-14). All research studies used in the curriculum have both 7th and 8th graders; the neurobiology part discusses the “development mismatch” between an adolescent’s limbic system and their prefrontal cortex; and every worksheet is designed for the life of a middle school student (i.e. school-themed exams, cafeteria social anxiety, hallway anxiety, sports pressure, digital anxiety). Therefore, the program is inappropriate for elementary students (too advanced) or high school students (language and examples are appropriate for the maturity level of students in grades 6-8).
