AR Spelling Puzzles
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities
This is a pack of 8 AR spelling puzzles. How do the AR spelling puzzles help with phonics? Some children have difficulty understanding that two letters can make one sound. As the letters AR are on one part of the picture card - together - the physical manipulation of one piece of the puzzle, with two letters and one sound helps the child to understand. Who are they for? Any child needing help to hear the letters AR as one sound in words. They can be used in the Early Years (Pre-K and K) or for Early intervention, or for Special Needs. Instructions (included in the download): Puzzle Type 1: Cut around the whole of each mini puzzle (4 per page) and then cut each picture into its divisions. To play: ·The child chooses any card. S/he must the find the remaining part/s of the picture to fit together to complete each word. ·As the child does this the teacher should draw the child’s attention to the letters on each card. Ask questions such as: ‘What does ‘farm’ begin with? ‘So ‘f’ comes first’. ‘What sound can you hear next? f-ar?’ ‘Can you find the piece with ‘ar’?’ ‘What sound does ‘farm’ end with?’ ‘Can you find the last piece with ‘m’?’ ·Once each picture is formed, the child should then sound out the word, moving each piece to the right as it is sounded. Emphasise the saying of one sound ‘ar’ for the letters ‘ar’ together. Puzzle Type 2: These puzzles should be completed after Puzzle Type 1. They consolidate learning. Cut each picture puzzle out. Cut out the separate letter cards. To Play: The child chooses a picture. The child sounds out the word: s-t-ar; c-ar; f-ar-m; sh-ar-k; b-ar-n; d-ar-t; c-ar-d; ar-m; c-ar-t; p-ar-k. The child then finds the letter cards needed to spell each word, placing them in the boxes under each card. Ask questions as the child works as for Puzzle Type 1.

ck Phonic Worksheets LETRS Aligned; Science of Reading
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
This is a super pack of 60 CK phonic worksheets. Fully differentiated you will find worksheets here suitable for every pupil and all abilities. For every activity, there are two sheets, one with consonant blends and one without. This means that pupils can revisit the digraph, once consonant blends have been learned, if they were not beforehand. This set of worksheets takes the first from hearing the IR sound in words, to reading and writing longer passages: a fully comprehensive teaching aid, saving you time hunting around to find the right worksheets for each child - here it is, all in one pack. These worksheets can be used with all synthetic phonic programmes, including RWI (Set 1 special friends), Letter and Sounds (Phase 3 set 3), and Jolly Phonics. They do not require knowledge of any other digraphs. They are aligned with the aims of LETRS, The Science of Reading and the standards set by the UK Gov. The activities cover: Speed reading Tracking the ‘ck’ sounds in words Reading ‘ck’ words Spelling ‘ck’ words Read and reveal pages Proofreading – a good way to help pupils to think about spelling patterns Sentence reading Reading comprehension activities Activities to encourage sentence construction using ‘ck’ words These ‘ck’ worksheets are suitable for: Pre-K, K and Grade 1 (or equivalents EYFS, and Y1). EYFS EFL Special Educational needs SEN/SEND Private tutors Included is a handy list of 'ck' words to help the teacher to plan lessons and activities. Teaching notes are provided in the pack. The teaching of the digraph ‘ck’ is easy for reading, but not so for spelling. The children must know the rule that we only use ‘ck’ after a short vowel sound. Much practice can be done to help children to hear the correct vowel in each word, and then to remember that we only use ‘ck’ when we hear ack, eck, ick, ock and uck. The diligent teacher will understand that many children will have difficulty with this and will be prepared to support pupils as they move on with phonics. Included: 1 PDF file 60 worksheets A4 size
