Types of Homes word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Types of Homes word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Types of Homes word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this types of homes puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our communities unit. The kids could name their own home but had no idea what words like apartment, cottage, or mansion meant when we talked about different places people live. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like house, apartment, condo, cottage, cabin, mansion, farmhouse, castle, tent, igloo, hut, and bungalow. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the home vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a castle counts as a home. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple house, apartment, and tent drawings but nothing too busy. Works for K through 2nd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their dream home on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using everyday signs like hello, goodbye, thank you, please, yes, no, help, stop, water, bathroom, and friend . I also included school-related signs like teacher, student, book, and learn because we use them all day long . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the basic ASL vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the sign for "please" is the same as the sign for "thank you." The crossword I use for partners or as a review after a signing practice session. I added a couple simple hand shape illustrations to show palm orientation but nothing too busy . Indigenous Art Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Indigenous Art Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Indigenous art vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our art and social studies unit. The kids could see carvings and woven baskets but had no idea what words like totem, petroglyph, or formline meant when we started learning about the art traditions of North America's First Peoples. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using terms from the glossary like petroglyph, pictograph, totem, formline, ovoid, crest, clan, potlatch, kiva, kachina, pictograph, petroglyph, formline, and material culture. I also included a note about artist as a concept, since in many Indigenous cultures there wasn't a separate word for art or artist—the focus was on the process and purpose rather than the product . The puzzle helps students see the diversity across regions, from Northwest Coast totem poles to Southwest pueblos, and breaks down the stereotype that all Indigenous art looks the same. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or during indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a pictograph is carved or painted, or whether a kiva is a room or a building. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after a lesson, and sometimes I have them reference the glossary page from our unit for support. I added a couple simple line drawings of a totem, a kiva, and a bentwood box but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers choose one term from the puzzle and draw a simple illustration of it on the back, or write a sentence about how it relates to a specific group or region. The kids actually ask for these now.

Crossword Puzzle: In the Park

Crossword Puzzle: In the Park
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Seasons, Spring, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, Crosswords Puzzles, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

This crossword puzzle is for students that are learning spelling, or already master spelling but want something colorful before holidays or students who are studying English as their second language. In this crossword, there are images as hints and the students have to name the images to the horizontal rows of the crossword. The lines are connected so when the crossword is filled correctly, a hidden message will appear in the emphasized vertical row. The hidden message will be: Holiday in Spring. The benefit of this kind of crossword is that once students understand the simple concept, they should be able to proceed themselves regardless of their level. The answer crossword is on the second page, but students are able to tell themselves whether they are right or not. If the hidden sentence is meaningful they are most likely to have done it right. If it doesn’t make sense, they will realize that and for example co-operate with their classmates to find the right solution. In other words, this worksheet is self-checking. This is a print-and-go and ready-to-use resource which can also be added to centers , or provided for substitute teachers. There are 15 words in this crossword. Some of them are very basic, such as ball, duck or tree. Some others may be a bit more difficult, like tricycle, squirrel or picnic. This way also English as second language students will get started and part of their crossword filled. If some of the words are challenging for the students, this can be also done as a group work.

The kids could compare quantities but had no idea what a ratio was or how to tell if two ratios made a proportion. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like ratio, proportion, compare, relationship, part to part, part to whole, equivalent, scale, cross multiply, fraction, colon, for every, per, constant, and rate. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the ratio and proportion terms finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether 2:3 is the same as 4:6. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple fruit bowl and mixing paint drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 5th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a ratio comparing boys to girls in the class on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Plot Setting and Theme word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this plot, setting, and theme puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our reading unit. The kids could tell me what happened in a story but had no idea how to separate the plot from the setting or figure out the theme. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like plot, setting, theme, time, place, location, season, problem, solution, events, main idea, message, lesson, moral, and author's purpose. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the three story elements finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether theme is the same as the main idea. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple house, clock, and book drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name the setting of their favorite book on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

ELL English Phonics for Spanish Speakers word search, scramble and cro

ELL English Phonics for Spanish Speakers word search, scramble and cro

ELL English Phonics for Spanish Speakers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this phonics puzzle set specifically for my Spanish-speaking newcomers during our first reading unit. The kids were learning letter sounds, but they kept getting confused by the vowels because English short vowels sound so different from Spanish. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using basic three-to-four letter words that have clear phonetic patterns and are useful for building vocabulary. I included words like cat, dog, sun, hat, pig, red, box, fish, and milk, all with picture clues to help connect the sound to the meaning. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the early phonics skills finally stick for kids who are building a foundation in both language and literacy. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for independent practice after a direct phonics lesson because the visual scanning reinforces letter recognition without requiring a lot of oral language. The scramble gets them talking because they recognize the word "casa" in Spanish but need to figure out "house" in English, or they see "sol" and have to find "sun." The crossword I use for partner work or as a quick warm-up, and I always have picture cards nearby for extra support. Works best for beginners at the upper elementary or middle school level who are just starting to sound out words in English. I've even had success using it with adult ESL learners who need a confidence boost. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a picture of one of the words and label it on the back. The kids actually ask for these now, and I can see the difference in their decoding skills after just a few uses.
