Mountains, Valleys, and Plains word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this mountains, valleys, and plains puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our landforms unit. The kids could spot a hill but kept mixing up which landform was which when I showed pictures. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like mountain, valley, plain, hill, plateau, ridge, summit, slope, canyon, meadow, lowland, highland, elevation, and erosion. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the differences finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a plain is flat or has trees. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple mountain and valley line drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 1st through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw one of each landform on the back and label them. The kids actually ask for these now.
