Animal Babies and Their Names word search, scramble and crossword
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Animal Babies and Their Names word search, scramble and crossword puzzle activity ⭐ I made this animal babies puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our life science unit. We were learning that a baby cow is called a calf and a baby kangaroo is called a joey, but the kids kept mixing them up. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using pairs like cat/kitten, dog/puppy, duck/duckling, frog/tadpole, and horse/foal. Nothing complicated. ⭐ The PDF is four pages total. Three pages are the puzzles and one page has all the answer keys. The word search works great for quiet morning work. The scramble gets them arguing (in a good way) over whether "piglet" or "shoat" is the right answer. The crossword I save for partners. I added a few simple animal drawings but kept it clean so it prints nicely in black and white. ⭐ Works for 1st through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one baby animal and draw it on the back. The kids like these way more than my regular vocabulary worksheets.

Prepositions word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this prepositions puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our grammar unit. The kids could tell me where things were but had no idea that words like "in," "on," or "under" were called prepositions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like in, on, under, above, below, beside, between, behind, in front of, near, far, inside, outside, through, around, across, into, out of, up, down, over, and without. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the position words finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "about" is a preposition. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple ball and box drawings showing different positions but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a picture of a cat in, on, and under a box on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Young Adult Fiction Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puz
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Young Adult Fiction Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this young adult fiction vocabulary puzzle set for my 5th graders during our reading unit, though I've also used it with 6th graders who are just getting into YA novels. The kids had moved on from middle grade books and wanted to read "big kid" stories, but they had no idea what words like voice, authenticity, or coming-of-age meant when we talked about what makes YA fiction different from other genres. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like voice, point of view, coming-of-age, identity, diversity, contemporary, dystopian, romance, conflict, growth, and relatable. I also included "melodrama" because YA can be a little extra sometimes, and "romance" is definitely a subgenre in many stories, and "contemporary" to distinguish it from historical or fantasy YA. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the YA vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether YA and middle grade are the same thing or whether age really matters. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we read a YA short story. I added a couple simple book, thought bubble, and teen silhouette drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 5th through 7th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a short recommendation of their favorite YA book using three words from the puzzle on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Trustworthiness Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this trustworthiness puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our social-emotional learning unit. The kids could say "you can trust me" but had no idea what words like trust, reliable, or honest meant when we talked about being someone others can count on. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like trust, trustworthy, reliable, honest, keep a secret, follow through, responsible, and dependable. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the trust vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether being trustworthy means you never make mistakes. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple lock, handshake, and star drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one way they can show they are trustworthy on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
