Numbers 1–20 word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this numbers 1–20 puzzle set for my Kindergarten and 1st grade students during our math unit. The kids could count out loud but had trouble recognizing the number words and matching them to the digits. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using numbers one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, and twenty. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the number words finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "twelve" or "thirteen." The crossword I use for partners with picture clues showing groups of objects. I added a couple simple star, apple, and block drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for K through 2nd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the digits for three number words on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
