Prepositions word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this prepositions puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our grammar unit. The kids could tell me where things were but had no idea that words like "in," "on," or "under" were called prepositions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like in, on, under, above, below, beside, between, behind, in front of, near, far, inside, outside, through, around, across, into, out of, up, down, over, and without. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the position words finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "about" is a preposition. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple ball and box drawings showing different positions but nothing too busy.

Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a picture of a cat in, on, and under a box on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
