Black Authors and Literature word search, scramble and crossword puzzl
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Black Authors and Literature word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Black authors and literature puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our reading and Black History Month unit. The kids could name a few famous writers like Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes but had no idea about other incredible authors like Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, or contemporary writers. I wanted to introduce them to a range of voices—from poets like Nikki Giovanni to novelists like Walter Dean Myers and Jacqueline Woodson—without making it feel like a lecture. I also threw in some famous book titles like I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and The Bluest Eye because they come up in conversations about American literature . For a younger audience, I made sure to include children's book authors like Mari Evans , who wrote empowering vocabulary books for preschoolers during the Black Arts Movement , and modern illustrators like Ana Latese , whose work celebrates Black and brown children . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "Zora" or whether Alex Haley is the author of Roots or something else. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've read a few short biographies. I added a couple simple quill, book, and star drawings but nothing too busy. I also made sure to include the Coretta Scott King Book Award and the Caldecott Medal in some of the vocabulary because the kids love seeing shiny medals on book covers . Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one author from the puzzles and write one fact about them or one book they wrote on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Young Adult Fiction Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puz
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Young Adult Fiction Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this young adult fiction vocabulary puzzle set for my 5th graders during our reading unit, though I've also used it with 6th graders who are just getting into YA novels. The kids had moved on from middle grade books and wanted to read "big kid" stories, but they had no idea what words like voice, authenticity, or coming-of-age meant when we talked about what makes YA fiction different from other genres. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like voice, point of view, coming-of-age, identity, diversity, contemporary, dystopian, romance, conflict, growth, and relatable. I also included "melodrama" because YA can be a little extra sometimes, and "romance" is definitely a subgenre in many stories, and "contemporary" to distinguish it from historical or fantasy YA. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the YA vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether YA and middle grade are the same thing or whether age really matters. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we read a YA short story. I added a couple simple book, thought bubble, and teen silhouette drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 5th through 7th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a short recommendation of their favorite YA book using three words from the puzzle on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Easter Sunday word Scramble puzzle worksheet
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Easter Sunday word Scramble puzzle worksheet activity Easter Sunday Word Scramble Worksheet I made this Easter word scramble for my Sunday school class last year when I needed a quick activity that was both fun and meaningful. It's a simple 2-page PDF with 24 scrambled Easter-related words that kids in grades 2-5 can solve. You'll find familiar terms like "bunny" and "eggs" mixed with faith-based words like "resurrection" and "cross." I printed mine on pastel paper for Easter morning, and the kids worked on them while waiting for our egg hunt to begin. The worksheet includes: • Page 1: The word scramble with plenty of writing space • Page 2: An answer key for easy checking I use this activity: During Easter Sunday services For Christian school Bible lessons As a pre-hunt gathering activity The words reflect our church's Easter traditions - "lily," "service," "hallelujah" - not just secular terms. Last year, my students had the best time racing to unscramble "empty tomb" before the others. Format: Basic PDF (2 pages) Teacher Tip: Have kids draw a small cross next to their favorite faith word!

Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Triangles word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this triangles puzzle set for my 4th graders during our geometry unit. The kids could point to a triangle but had no idea there were different types based on sides or angles. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like triangle, side, angle, vertex, equilateral, isosceles, scalene, acute triangle, right triangle, obtuse triangle, congruent, equal, sum, 180 degrees, and polygon. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the triangle vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether an equilateral triangle can also be a right triangle. The crossword I use for partners with picture clues. I added a couple simple triangle drawings with labeled sides and angles but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name the three types of triangles by sides on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Sign Language ASL Alphabet word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this ASL alphabet puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our language and culture unit. The kids were fascinated by sign language but had no idea how to fingerspell or what the hand shapes meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like A, B, C, fingerspelling, hand shape, deaf, hearing, sign, communicate, language, and alphabet. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the ASL vocabulary and hand shape recognition finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the hand shape for "P" and "Q" are pointing in the right direction . The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple hand shape illustrations but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers practice fingerspelling their name on the back . Weather Instruments Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puz
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Weather Instruments Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this weather instruments puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our weather unit. The kids could tell me if it was sunny or rainy, but they had no idea what instruments like thermometer , barometer , or anemometer were used for, or how they measured things like temperature, pressure, and wind speed . They kept mixing up which instrument measured what, and they always asked whether a weather vane and a wind sock were the same thing . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like thermometer, barometer, anemometer, wind vane, rain gauge, hygrometer, weather balloon, satellite, radar, wind sock, and weather station. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of anemometer (it's a tricky one) or whether a barometer and a thermometer are the same thing (they're not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have simple diagrams of each instrument and what they measure (temperature, pressure, wind speed, humidity, rainfall) nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the differences . I added a couple simple thermometer, rain gauge, and wind vane drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one instrument and write a sentence about what it measures on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Inclusion and Diversity word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this inclusion and diversity puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our social-emotional learning unit. The kids could say everyone is different but had no idea what words like inclusion, diversity, or accept meant when we talked about welcoming everyone. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like inclusion, diversity, accept, respect, welcome, different, same, culture, language, ability, family, and unique. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the inclusion vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether diversity is just about skin color or more than that. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple puzzle piece, rainbow, and holding hands drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Anthropology Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Anthropology Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this anthropology puzzle set for my 4th graders during our social studies unit. The kids had heard the word "anthropology" but had no idea what it actually meant or what anthropologists do. They kept asking questions like "So... do they dig up bones? Study languages? Both?" So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using basic terms like culture, evolution, genetics, hominid, artifact, primate, kinship, ethnography, and ritual . I also made sure to include the four main subfields—**cultural anthropology, archaeology, linguistic anthropology, and biological anthropology**—because that's the clearest way I've found to show them what the discipline actually covers . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "archaeology" or whether a "hominid" is the same as a "human" (it's a broader category that includes our ancestors, not just us—the kids always have opinions about it). The crossword I use for partners or as a review after a lesson, and I usually have a few pictures of fossils, archaeological sites, and diverse cultures nearby for the kids who need the visual support to connect the words to the concepts. I added a couple simple fossil, dig site, and language symbol drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one term from the puzzle and write a sentence about what it means in their own words on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Mexican Culture and Traditions word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Mexican culture and traditions puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our cultural celebrations unit. The kids knew about tacos and piñatas but had no idea about deeper cultural traditions like Día de los Muertos, papel picado, or mariachi music. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Día de los Muertos, ofrenda, marigold, papel picado, mariachi, sombrero, piñata, taco, guacamole, salsa, tortilla, Aztec, fiesta, and celebration. I also threw in a few like Quetzalcoatl and axolotl because the kids are always curious about Aztec history and these words tie in beautifully with indigenous heritage. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "Quetzalcoatl" or whether Día de los Muertos is sad or joyful. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've made papel picado or tried some traditional snacks. I added a couple simple marigold, skull, and sombrero drawings but nothing too busy. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Diwali, Hanukkah, Lunar New Year, Ramadan, Eid, Holi, Carnival, Mardi Gras, Kwanzaa, Oktoberfest, and Day of the Dead. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the celebration vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether Diwali is the Festival of Lights or the Festival of Colors (Diwali is lights, Holi is colors — they always mix them up). The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've looked at pictures of celebrations. I added a couple simple diya, lantern, and skull drawings but nothing too busy. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether copying one sentence from a website is plagiarism. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple book, magnifying glass, and computer drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one reason why citing sources is important on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Long Vowel Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Long Vowel Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this long vowel words puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our phonics unit. The kids could read short vowel words but got confused when the same vowel made a different sound like in "cake" versus "cat." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like cake, bake, lake, make, take, name, game, same, time, like, bike, kite, five, nine, home, hope, rope, note, use, cute, tube, cube, tree, see, bee, feet, meet, boat, coat, road, soap, and rain. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the long vowel patterns finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "rain" has the long a sound. The crossword I use for partners with picture clues. I added a couple simple cake, bike, tree, and boat drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers list one long vowel word for each vowel on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Sight Words Grade 3 word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Sight Words Grade 3 word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this sight words puzzle set for my 3rd graders during our reading unit. The kids could read fluently but still needed practice with more advanced common words like "different," "important," or "thought." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like about, better, bring, carry, clean, cut, done, draw, drink, eight, fall, far, full, got, grow, hold, hot, hurt, if, keep, kind, laugh, light, long, much, myself, never, only, own, pick, seven, shall, show, six, small, start, ten, today, together, try, warm, and eight. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the third grade Dolch words finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "different" or "important." The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple star and library book drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word and use it in a sentence on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Word search & scramble puzzle worksheet activities for kids 2nd and 3rd grades to 4th and 5th grades, also solution for the puzzles is included ⭐ This document contains a word search and a word scramble activity. The materials were created during an afternoon when student engagement was low. The objective was to provide an activity that resembled a game while also stimulating cognitive function. The puzzles proved effective in achieving this goal. The PDF document is four pages in length. It includes two puzzles for student use (a word search and a word scramble) and two answer keys. Visual elements are incorporated to enhance engagement without causing distraction. The graphics are designed to be appropriate for the target audience. ⭐ The students in the class find these items enjoyable. They work on them in groups during the morning session, or they are provided to students who complete their work early to occupy their time. The word search activity has also been utilized as a quiet activity following recess. The word scramble activity often initiates discussions, such as the correct form of the word "recycle." The preparation required is minimal. The materials are printed, distributed, and then the students begin the activity. Occasionally, students are instructed to highlight or circle their preferred word and use it in a sentence. This extends the activity beyond simple enjoyment and enhances its educational value.
