The kids knew they should wash their hands but had no idea why or how long to scrub. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like wash, soap, water, scrub, rinse, dry, germs, bacteria, virus, sick, healthy, twenty seconds, fingertips, nails, between fingers, backs of hands, sneeze, cough, elbow, tissue, and disinfect. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the hygiene habits finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how long to wash hands. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple soap bottle, water drop, and happy clean hand drawings but nothing too busy. Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. They also kept mixing up the different goals of psychology —who studies what and why. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using foundational terms like psychology , behavior , cognition , hypothesis , theory , scientific method , psychologist , psychiatry , emotion , perception , motivation , consciousness , conditioning , memory , development , personality , stress , mental health , and therapy . I also threw in a few like "empathy," "identity," "unconscious," and "conditioning" because they kept coming up in our class discussions about how we learn and why we feel the things we do . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "psychology" (it's a tricky one with that silent 'p') or whether a psychologist and a psychiatrist are the same thing (they're not—one is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication, the other has a doctorate in psychology and focuses on therapy and research, and the kids always have opinions about it). The puzzles proved effective in achieving this goal. The PDF document is four pages in length. It includes two puzzles for student use (a word search and a word scramble) and two answer keys. Nonprofit and Volunteer Careers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this nonprofit and volunteer careers puzzle set for my 4th graders during our career exploration and community service unit. The kids could name a few jobs like volunteer coordinator and fundraiser, but they had no idea about the wide variety of careers in the nonprofit sector—or what words like mission, donor, and grant meant when we talked about how these organizations make a difference without aiming for profit. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like nonprofit, volunteer, service, community, donation, grant, mission, cause, advocate, and humanitarian . I also made sure to include "social impact" and "changemaker" because they came up in our conversations about how people can turn their passion into a career. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between a donor and a grant, or whether a volunteer coordinator and a program director do the same job. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a few short career videos. I added a couple simple heart, handshake, and globe drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one nonprofit career from the puzzles and write what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
