Summer Olympics word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Summer Olympics word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Summer Olympics puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our summer games unit. The kids were excited about the Olympics but only knew the big ones like swimming and running. They had no idea what words like "pommel horse," "peloton," or "repechage" meant . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like athletics, archery, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, water polo, weightlifting, and wrestling . I also sprinkled in sport-specific terms like "peloton" (the main group of riders in cycling) , "pommel horse" (a gymnastics apparatus), and "repechage" (a second-chance race in rowing) to build that Olympic vocabulary . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether skateboarding and surfing are real Olympic sports (they are now) or what a "pommel" is. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple torch, medal, and rings drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick a sport they'd want to try and write why on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Sign Language ASL Alphabet word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Sign Language ASL Alphabet word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this ASL alphabet puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our language and culture unit. The kids were fascinated by sign language but had no idea how to fingerspell or what the hand shapes meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like A, B, C, fingerspelling, hand shape, deaf, hearing, sign, communicate, language, and alphabet. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the ASL vocabulary and hand shape recognition finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the hand shape for "P" and "Q" are pointing in the right direction . The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple hand shape illustrations but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers practice fingerspelling their name on the back . The kids actually ask for these now.

National Find a Rainbow Day word search puzzle worksheet activity
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
National Find a Rainbow Day word search puzzle worksheet activity National Find a Rainbow Day Word Search - Colorful Classroom Activity I made this rainbow word search last March for my 2nd graders to celebrate National Find a Rainbow Day (April 3rd). It's a simple 2-page PDF with 24 rainbow-related words hidden in all directions - perfect for when we needed a fun but educational activity during our weather unit. The word list includes: • Basic color words ("red," "blue") • Science terms ("spectrum," "refraction") • Fun rainbow items ("gold," "leprechaun") I remember my students especially loved finding "double rainbow" hidden diagonally - it sparked a great discussion about how rainbows form! The words are in a clear, large font that's easy for young readers. Use this for: • Morning work on April 3rd • A light activity after standardized testing • Introducing your light/weather science unit • St. Patrick's Day or spring celebrations Page 1 is the word search grid (I like to print this on white paper so kids can color the rainbow border when finished). Page 2 has the answer key - I keep this on my clipboard for quick checking. Last year, we paired this with a "rainbow scavenger hunt" where students checked off colors they found in our classroom. The word "violet" led to a nice teachable moment about the color purple! Format: No-frills PDF (2 pages) Teacher Tip: Have students use highlighters to match each word to its color in a real rainbow!

Multiple Meaning Words word Scramble puzzle worksheet
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Multiple Meaning Words word Scramble puzzle worksheet activity Multiple Meaning Words Word Scramble – Double the Challenge I created this for my 4th grade ELA class when they kept mixing up words like "bat" (animal vs. sports gear). Now they unscramble 24 tricky terms —then compete to shout out both meanings. The room erupted when someone solved "NIBARK" and yelled "Dog noise! Tree covering!" What's Inside: ✔ 2 printable pages (scramble + answer key) ✔ Bonus "Which Meaning?" quiz (page 2) ✔ Funny dual-image clues (baseball bat + flying mammal) Classroom Moment: "A student gasped when she realized 'WAVE' could mean ocean OR goodbye—her mind was blown!" – Ms. T., ELA Teacher Perfect For: • Vocabulary centers • Test prep (without the stress) • ESL word play Sample Scrambles: TBA (Answer: bat ) NALP (Answer: plan ) REAT (Answer: tear ) Teacher Hack: Split the class into teams —each solved word earns a chance to act out BOTH meanings

US State Birds word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
US State Birds word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this US state birds puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our geography unit. The kids could name a few state birds like the cardinal and the robin, but they had no idea that the northern cardinal is the state bird of seven states or that some states have a chicken as their official bird. They also kept mixing up which bird belonged to which state, so I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using a list of state birds, including the northern cardinal (state bird of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia), the western meadowlark (Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, and Wyoming), and the northern mockingbird (Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas) . I also made sure to include a few unique ones like the yellowhammer of Alabama, the nēnē of Hawaii, the willow ptarmigan of Alaska, and the roadrunner of New Mexico because they always spark good conversations . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a roadrunner is actually a bird or if the blue hen chicken really counts (it does, and the kids always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've looked at a map of state symbols. I added a couple simple cardinal, meadowlark, and mockingbird drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one state bird from the puzzles and write what state it represents or color a picture of it on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Exoplanets Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Exoplanets Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this exoplanets vocabulary puzzle set for my 4th graders during our space unit. The kids were obsessed with the idea of planets orbiting other stars, but they kept mixing up terms like "exoplanet," "transit," and "habitable zone," and they always asked whether we could actually see these planets or not. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using vocabulary from the exoplanet unit: exoplanet, extrasolar, transit, orbit, habitable, goldilocks zone, telescope, radial velocity, light-year, star, galaxy, and Milky Way. I also included a few like "Doppler" and "Kepler" because they kept coming up in our class discussions about how we find these planets. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "exoplanet" or whether a "habitable" planet really means there's life on it (it doesn't—it just means liquid water could exist, and the kids always have opinions about it). The crossword I use for partners, and I usually have a diagram of the transit method and a picture of the Goldilocks zone nearby for the kids who need the visual support to connect the words to the concepts. Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw the transit method on the back and label it with a word from the puzzle. The kids actually ask for these now.

Women in Leadership word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Women in Leadership word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this women in leadership puzzle set for my 4th graders during our biography unit and Women's History Month. The kids could name a few leaders like Rosa Parks and Malala, but they had no idea about the breadth of leadership roles women hold—from presidents and CEOs to ambassadors and governors. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like president, CEO, leader, influencer, visionary, pioneer, strategic, inspirational, empowering, resilient, inclusive, collaborative, decisive, confident, entrepreneur, ambassador, governor, senator, manager, innovator, and heroine . I also added key terms like "advocate," "mentor," and "role model" because the kids kept asking how leaders support others and what it takes to become one . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "resilient" and "persistent" mean the same thing, or what a "visionary" actually does. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've read short biographies of leaders like Kamala Harris, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Malala Yousafzai . I added a couple simple star, podium, and handshake drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one leadership word from the puzzles and write a sentence about what it means to be a leader on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

ELL Academic Vocabulary Grade 1 word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this academic vocabulary puzzle set for my 1st graders during our reading and writing block. The kids could do the work but had no idea what words like "describe," "compare," or "identify" meant when I gave them directions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like explain, describe, compare, contrast, identify, list, define, state, retell, infer, and predict . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the direction words finally stick in a way that makes sense to six-year-olds. I also threw in a few key ELA terms like author, illustrator, title, setting, character, and plot because they come up in every read-aloud we do . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between "explain" and "describe." The crossword I use for partners or as a warm-up before a lesson . I added a couple simple checkmark, pencil, and book drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 1st through 2nd grade, especially for English learners who need extra exposure to academic language . I also threw in a few like "indigenous" and "ethnocentric" because they kept coming up in our class discussions . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "ethnocentric" (it's a tricky one) or whether a command economy and a market economy are the same thing (they're not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a list of vocabulary definitions nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the concepts. Student Government Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this student government vocabulary puzzle set for my 4th graders during our class elections unit. The kids were excited to run for office, but they had no idea what words like candidate, election, or campaign meant when we talked about the process of choosing student leaders. The materials were created during an afternoon when student engagement was low. The objective was to provide an activity that resembled a game while also stimulating cognitive function. The puzzles proved effective in achieving this goal. The PDF document is four pages in length. It includes two puzzles for student use (a word search and a word scramble) and two answer keys. Visual elements are incorporated to enhance engagement without causing distraction. The graphics are designed to be appropriate for the target audience. ⭐ The students in the class find these items enjoyable. They work on them in groups during the morning session, or they are provided to students who complete their work early to occupy their time. The word search activity has also been utilized as a quiet activity following recess. The word scramble activity often initiates discussions, such as the correct form of the word "recycle." The preparation required is minimal. The materials are printed, distributed, and then the students begin the activity. Occasionally, students are instructed to highlight or circle their preferred word and use it in a sentence. This extends the activity beyond simple enjoyment and enhances its educational value.

Branches of Government word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Branches of Government word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this branches of government puzzle set for my 4th graders during our civics unit. The kids could name the president but had no idea what the legislative or judicial branches did or why we have three branches in the first place. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like executive, legislative, judicial, president, Congress, Senate, House of Representatives, Supreme Court, justice, law, veto, override, interpret, checks and balances, and Constitution. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the three branches finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about which branch makes laws. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple triangle diagram and building drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the job of each branch on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
