World Language Greetings in 10 Languages word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this world language greetings puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our global cultures unit. The kids knew how to say hello in English and maybe Spanish, but they had no idea that there are thousands of languages and that "hello" can look and sound completely different around the world. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using greetings from ten different languages: Hola (Spanish), Bonjour (French), Ciao (Italian), Hallo (German), Konnichiwa (Japanese), Ni hao (Chinese), Annyeonghaseyo (Korean), Namaste (Hindi), Shalom (Hebrew), and Salaam (Arabic). I also threw in a few greetings from less common languages like Jambo (Swahili), Merhaba (Turkish), and Guten Tag (German) just to keep it interesting. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about which greeting is the hardest to pronounce or whether "Ciao" is used in more than one country. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we practice saying the greetings aloud. I added a couple simple flag and speech bubble drawings but nothing too busy. Figurative Language Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this figurative language puzzle set for my 4th graders during our reading and writing unit. The kids could spot a simile sometimes but had no idea what words like metaphor, personification, or hyperbole meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, idiom, alliteration, onomatopoeia, imagery, compare, describe, exaggerate, sound word, and figure of speech. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the literary terms finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "boom" is onomatopoeia or just a sound. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple speech bubble and paintbrush drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one example of a simile on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

The kids loved being online but had no idea what words like digital, citizenship, or respect meant when we talked about how to behave on the internet. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like digital, citizen, respect, kind, safe, private, share, online, password, think, and report. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the digital citizenship vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether being kind online is as important as being kind in person. Profiles in Courage Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this profiles in courage vocabulary puzzle set for my 5th graders during our biography unit and social-emotional learning block. The kids could describe a brave person, but they kept mixing up "brave" and "fearless," and they had no idea what words like integrity, conviction, or resilience meant when we read stories about people who stood up for what was right in the face of danger. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like courage, conviction, integrity, resilience, sacrifice, justice, truth, suffering, challenge, decision, leadership, compassion, and bravery . I also made sure to include "uncommon valor" because it appears in the Medal of Honor citation and always sparks good discussion about what makes an act "uncommon." The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether courage is the absence of fear or acting despite it (they always land on acting despite it, especially after we read about figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and John F.
