Final NK Blend Worksheet: Phonemic Awareness activities

This final blend _NK fun, Find and Color worksheet for final blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with final consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. This activity is a great phonemic awareness activity. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the final _NK blend. What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that end with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of final blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the end of a word, easily. Some children find final blends easier than initial blends as they can sound out the first three sounds, and simply add a fourth: h-a-n: han-d. I call /n/ 'naughty' 'n' as he likes to hide in words: children are apt to miss out the nasal sound and spell hand as 'had'. I then ask them to sound back what they have written and we laugh. Often they can quickly insert the missing letter, having had plenty of practice aurally, such as this sheet affords. However all pupils need practice, some more than others. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the end of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each final blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the final blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature, they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

It is a 2-page printable that includes a page of problems to solve and a coloring page. An answer key is included. How To Implement This Color by Number Activity: You should print off enough copies of the worksheet for each student to have. On the first page, students will use distributive property for each problem set on the page. This 'CK' set of 4 phonics anchor charts is excellent for acquainting children with words in the 'CK' spelling family, for both reading and spelling development. What is included in the pack? Two brightly coloured 'CK' phonics anchor charts which can be used as a word wall, or for teacher use, one with blends and one without - fully differentiated! One black and white phonics anchor chart, which can be coloured by pupils What do the worksheets involve? The colour 'CK' anchor chart can be used as a word wall or as an aid to teaching the 'CK' digraph. The black and white anchor chart can be coloured by the pupil. The act of colouring helps the family of 'ai' words to be fixed together as a group of words in the child's memory. In addition, children can be encouraged to think of a story, using as many words on the 'CK' anchor chart as possible.
