Managing Stress & Anxiety Strategies SEL Skills Writing Challenge

Managing Stress & Anxiety Strategies SEL Skills Writing Challenge
P.E. & Health, ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Grammar, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Teaching critical social emotional skills while getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. While stress and anxiety will always be a part of the human experience, building strategies to cope with them are something we can support our students with to manage their impact. One way we can do this is by role playing and creating stories. This resource (and the others that complement it in this series!) seeks to provide the scaffolding needed for learners to imagine and begin telling a story in written form. Then they're invited into 5 different STEAM extension activities to keep the conversations going. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Remember, there are over a year's worth of writing activities in this line! Keep the fun stories rolling by checking out holiday, winter, summer, life skills, and adventure writing activities from Melissa Is Teaching! This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders as they take on the cognitively heavy task of writing a narrative, while also supporting them with the scaffolding and inspiration in the provided idea matrix. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4+ extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

Anger Triggers Worksheet

Anger Triggers Worksheet
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Education Needs (SEN), Social Skills, Not Grade Specific, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

This worksheet is for children to think about times that they have been angry and what it was that caused the anger. The idea of this is then to then encourage a conversation about how they could avoid this in the future. Identifying triggers that make you angry is beneficial for several reasons: Self-awareness: Recognizing your anger triggers increases self-awareness. It allows you to understand the specific situations, events, or behaviors that provoke your anger. This awareness helps you anticipate and prepare for potential triggers, allowing you to respond in a more controlled and constructive manner. Emotional regulation: When you can identify your anger triggers, you gain greater control over your emotional responses. Knowing what sets off your anger gives you an opportunity to develop strategies and coping mechanisms to manage your anger effectively. You can implement relaxation techniques, practice deep breathing, or engage in activities that help you calm down before anger escalates. Relationship improvement: Understanding your anger triggers can improve your relationships with others. It allows you to communicate your triggers and boundaries to the people around you, helping them understand what might provoke your anger. This shared knowledge promotes healthier communication, reduces misunderstandings, and can lead to more respectful and considerate interactions. Problem-solving: Identifying anger triggers helps you identify patterns and underlying issues that may contribute to your anger. It enables you to address and resolve those issues more effectively. By identifying triggers, you can also explore alternative solutions or behaviors that can prevent or mitigate anger-inducing situations. Personal growth: Recognizing anger triggers provides an opportunity for personal growth and self-reflection. It allows you to explore the root causes of your anger and examine any underlying beliefs, values, or past experiences that may contribute to your reactions. This self-reflection can lead to personal insights, growth, and the development of healthier coping strategies. Health and well-being: Unmanaged anger can have detrimental effects on physical and mental health. By identifying triggers, you can take proactive steps to minimize or avoid situations that lead to anger. This, in turn, can reduce stress, improve overall well-being, and contribute to better physical and emotional health.
