AR Phonics Worksheets | R-Controlled Vowel AR | Differentiated | SOR
Common Core, Reading, ELA, Phonics, Language Development, Reading Comprehension, Spelling, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
AR Phonics Worksheets | R-Controlled Vowel AR | Differentiated | SOR – 57 Fully Differentiated Phonics Resources Fifty-seven worksheets teaching the AR digraph, suitable for all abilities in the class. These resources work for young learners and older pupils with special educational needs. The systematic approach suits all children, including those children suspected of being dyslexic or those requiring explicit, structured teaching. Suitable for intervention work. What's included Each worksheet is differentiated at two or three levels. The teaching sequence moves from phonemic awareness through to reading comprehension. Reading passages use controlled vocabulary—a small core of AR words repeated to build fluency without overwhelming the learner. Layout is kept simple to reduce cognitive load. The teaching sequence The worksheets cover the full learning arc: phonemic awareness work, writing practice, nine different word-level activities, and three reading passages at three difficulty levels with comprehension exercises. Activities include spelling tasks, letter ordering, read-and-match exercises, rhyming work, differentiated word searches, hunt-the-AR activities, and word fluency practice. Design features Instructions are clear. Layout is uncluttered. Words are double-spaced to support tracking. The structure is fully systematic—each worksheet builds on what came before. How it works Word-level activities use a broad range of AR words to establish pattern recognition. Reading passages, however, draw from a much smaller set. This vocabulary control means children can develop reading fluency without encountering too many unfamiliar words at once. They learn to blend widely, but read from a narrower stock until fluency is secure. Using the resource Match worksheet difficulty to the pupil's current reading ability, not their age. Some children will move through easier levels quickly. Others need longer at each stage. Both paths are appropriate. The aim is secure understanding before moving forward. This is a complete teaching sequence in one resource. Fifty-seven worksheets. Fully differentiated. Systematic phonics teaching from phonemic awareness through to reading comprehension. Print and teach.

Mixed Numbers Recipe Doubling – Real-World Math
Math, Fractions, Grade 4, 5, 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Activities
Butter Tart Recipe (based on my grandma's actual delicious family recipe!) Here is a real-life example to help students practice adding and multiplying mixed numbers and improper fractions. When students ask, "When will we ever use this in real-life?!" you can show them this lesson and say that working with fractions is so common in baking. This delicious activity will allow students to practice using fractions with a realistic everyday example: baking! Students will take a recipe that has several fractions in it and double it. Half a cup of something becomes a cup and 3/4 of a cup becomes 1 and a half cups. After that, they need to figure out how much of each ingredient would be needed if the recipe was made five times bigger (perhaps in a bakery setting or for a large event). I encourage my students to use different strategies to complete this task: drawing pictures with squares, repeated addition, or multiplication. Boxes for diagrams and math calculations are included to encourage students to show their work. You could even have different students come up to show their personal strategies to the rest of the class. As an extension, students can bring in their own recipes from home in the next class and double them or multiply them by five as well. You might even want to actually make something tasty to eat too! Taxes: What Do Taxes Pay For: Income Tax, Financial Literacy, HS Math
Life Studies, Finance, Home Economics, Math, Addition and Subtraction, Money, Special Resources, Life Skills, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Projects, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Worksheets
What do the taxes you pay do? This high school personal financial literacy, life skills, and applied math project is designed for your students in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade when they are learning about all kinds of taxes and how the money collected by the government from income tax, property tax & sales tax is used in our society. How to Use: Print five pages of worksheets per student. Read through page one together and discuss the kinds of taxes that the government collects. Next, students investigate the local services their government funds with tax money. For some of these government services, it may be quite easy for your students to research a private alternative cost (for example, they find the tuition cost for a private school in their city). For other services, it will be definitely be harder to find a private alternative cost. Encourage your students to make reasonable estimates. Being exact is not crucial; the goal is for students to think about how much money it would cost to replace all the public services with private options. On the third and fourth pages, students will read about a fictional family: the Browns. They will use information and amounts provided in the simulation to total all of the expenses the Browns would have to pay out of pocket in a community that has no taxes. Would it really be better that way? Finally, on the fifth page, students will write a reflection about what they have learned about taxes from this project. Lead a class discussion to allow students to share their ideas and opinions. A complete answer key is provided for easy marking. What's Included: 7-Page PDF: Ready to Print and Use! Teacher Instructions 2 Pages: Research Local Programs Funded by Taxes and Private Alternatives 2-Page Realistic Simulation (with Spreadsheet) Reflection Answer Key Grades to Use With: This financial literacy, applied math, and life skills project is designed for your high school students in a variety of classes: consumer math, personal financial literacy, career & personal planning, applied math, or life skills.
