TW Beginning Blends Worksheets / Phonemic Awareness Activities

This TW fun, Find and Color worksheet for beginning blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the TW blend. What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on each worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheets unaided once they have been instructed, although with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature, they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

Worksheet One In the initial worksheet, there is a two-page table where children need to estimate the weight of certain objects. Furthermore, they have to decide whether each item weighs more or less than one kilogram, writing 'YES' or 'NO' based on their evaluations. Once completed guessing phase, children record the exact weight of each studied object in both kilograms and grams format then compared it with their initial estimates to see whether they were correct or not (marking either YES or NO). Worksheet Two The second worksheet follows a similar structure but involves individual mass estimates for each object chosen for evaluation instead of initially predicting if it's more or less than one kilogram. Similarly as Worksheet One also allows them to compare their assertions by documenting real measurements after weighing those objects. Practice reading words with the suffix -ABLE with these sentence reading rings. Students will read words with the suffix -able in the context of sentences. Each card also includes a bold and colorful image to illustrate each sentence and to help students to learn the meanings of each word. What is Included: This resource includes one reading ring activity for the suffix able. There are cards each featuring a different word with the suffix able, with a sentence using the word in context and an image to illustrate that sentence. When to Use Early Finishers - If students finish their work early, they can use these reading rings for extra practice. Small Group Work - Teachers can use these reading rings to target small groups of students who need more practice reading words with suffixes. Independent Practice - Students can work independently at their desks to read this set of suffix cards. Morning Work - Students can read and review this reading ring for morning work as their classmates arrive to class. How to Make: Teachers will print out the pages and cut each card apart.
