Adjectives word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this adjectives puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our grammar unit. The kids could describe things but had no idea that describing words are called adjectives. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like big, small, tall, short, hot, cold, wet, dry, soft, hard, loud, quiet, fast, slow, happy, sad, angry, silly, brave, and careful. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the describing words finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "that" can be an adjective. The crossword I use for partners with picture clues. I added a couple simple happy face, big balloon, and small ant drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers describe an object in the room using three adjectives on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
