Animation Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this animation vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our media unit. The kids loved cartoons but had no idea what words like frame, cel, or stop motion meant when we talked about how animation is created. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like animation, frame, cel, cell, stop motion, claymation, computer animation, CGI, flipbook, character, background, movement, lip sync, voice actor, storyboard, render, and frame rate. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the animation vocabulary finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or during indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether stop motion and claymation are the same thing. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple cartoon character and film strip drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one animated movie they love and the type of animation used on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
