Asking for Help Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this asking for help puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our social-emotional learning unit. The kids could need help but had no idea what words like ask, question, or help meant when we talked about reaching out to others. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like ask, help, question, need, want, raise hand, call, teacher, parent, friend, and explain. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the asking for help vocabulary finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether raising your hand is always the right way to ask for help. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple question mark, raised hand, and speech bubble drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one thing they might need help with on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
