Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Form the Spanish contractions al (a + el) and del (de + el) correctly
Choose the correct contracted or uncontracted form (al, del, a la, de la, a los, de los) to complete a sentence
Identify and correct sentences that incorrectly use 'a el' or 'de el' instead of the proper contraction
Teaching tips
On page 4, expand the choices for estantería, sala and niña to include a la and de la. Do not force al or del before those feminine nouns.
Use page 7 as phrase rewriting, or supply your own matching choices. Pages 2, 3 and 5 have English directions; introduce the Spanish directions on the other pages.
Skills covered
Spanish contraction formation — students combine a + el and de + el into al and del across multiple worksheet formats.
Contextual sentence completion — students choose a preposition-and-article phrase to complete a Spanish sentence, using the corrected word choices.
Error correction — students rewrite sentences that incorrectly use uncontracted 'a el' or 'de el' with the proper contraction.
