Count the Bananas – Feed the Monkey Math Activity

Count quantities up to 10 using one-to-one correspondence

Recognize the written numerals 1 through 10

Match a counted quantity to the numeral that names it

Cut apart the numerals on the second page in advance, or make cutting them the warm-up, so children place physical numbers rather than pointing

Laminate the pages before cutting the numerals apart if the set will live in a math center — the pieces get handled every round

Have children count each banana bunch aloud, then say the number name again as they place its numeral, to link the count to the written symbol

Counting to 10 — children count each group of bananas on the activity page before choosing its number.

Numeral recognition — the numerals 1 through 10 appear beside the banana groups and again as cut-apart number pieces.

Quantity-numeral matching — the printed task “Match the Bananas to the Numbers” pairs each counted bunch with the numeral that names it.

Fine-motor practice — cutting apart and placing the ten number pieces builds hand control alongside the counting work.
