Counting Money Coins word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this counting money coins puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our math unit. The kids could identify coins but had no idea how to count mixed groups or what words like penny, nickel, dime, or quarter meant when we talked about their values. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like penny, nickel, dime, quarter, cent, value, count, total, and dollar. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the money vocabulary finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a dime is worth more than a nickel even though it's smaller. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple penny, nickel, dime, and quarter drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw three ways to make 25 cents on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
