Grade 1 Days of the Week word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this days of the week puzzle set for my 1st graders during our calendar and time unit. The kids could name the days but kept mixing up the order—especially Tuesday and Thursday—and had trouble spelling words like Wednesday and February, even though February is a month and not a day . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using days of the week like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I also threw in a few like "today" and "tomorrow" because they kept coming up in our morning meeting conversations . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "Wednesday" (the silent D always gets them) or whether Saturday is the last day or Sunday is the first day . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a classroom calendar nearby for the kids who need visual support. I added a couple simple calendar and star drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for K through 2nd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the days of the week in order on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
