From the author

This illustrated social story introduces wearing deodorant as part of a getting-ready routine. Two 13-page first-person versions use boy and girl illustrations with some differences in wording.

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students can explain why a changing body needs a daily hygiene routine that includes showering and deodorant.

  • Students can identify applying deodorant as a daily step to complete before getting dressed.

Teaching tips

  • Choose the boy or girl version to match the student, or use both if introducing the topic to a mixed group.

  • Laminate and bind the pages, or place them in a display book, since the contributor's own materials note the story is meant to be read repeatedly to reinforce the routine.

  • Pair the story with an actual demonstration of applying deodorant so the routine described on the page becomes a concrete daily action.

Skills covered

  • Body-awareness vocabulary — students connect body changes (sweating, hair growth) to the reasons a new hygiene step is needed.

  • Daily routine sequencing — students learn where deodorant fits in a daily self-care routine, applied before getting dressed.
