Lesson Plan on Father's Day

This 90-minute lesson plan uses an interesting movie, interactive discussion, and practical exercises to teach Grades 1–3 students about the origins and significance of Father's Day. Students learn about the history of Father's Day, including the tales of Sonora Dodd and Grace Golden Clayton, through the animated YouTube movie.

After a warm-up talk, the class watches a movie and completes guided comprehension exercises. To further solidify their comprehension, students then do a vibrant worksheet that includes true/false questions, matching exercises, a crossword, a wordsearch, and a drawing assignment. In a creative card-making exercise that wraps up the class, students create sentimental Father's Day cards and compose brief notes of gratitude for their fathers or other caregivers.

This lesson encourages students to express gratitude, develop their listening and comprehension skills, and explore the importance of family relationships in a fun and meaningful way. All materials, including the worksheet and answer key, are provided to support easy implementation in the classroom.
