Media Literacy Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this media literacy puzzle set for my 4th graders during our digital citizenship unit. The kids saw ads and videos every day but had no idea what words like bias, propaganda, or target audience meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like media, advertisement, commercial, claim, evidence, bias, propaganda, target audience, persuasion, fact, opinion, headline, image, message, purpose, and credibility. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the media literacy vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a commercial can ever be completely unbiased. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple TV, laptop, and megaphone drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one way to tell if a news story might be biased on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
