Mothers Day Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this Mother's Day vocabulary puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our May unit. The kids loved their moms but had no idea what words like Mother's Day, appreciate, or hug meant when I tried to teach them about showing gratitude. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Mother, Mom, Mother's Day, May, love, appreciate, thank you, hug, kiss, card, flower, gift, breakfast, family, and celebrate. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the Mother's Day vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a hug is better than a gift. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple heart, flower, and card drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one reason they appreciate their mom on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
